Back before "something as simple as boys & girls got tossed all around & then lost in the world"(Patty Griffin-"Mother of God"). "At Last" by Etta James , which was on the "Pleasantville" soundtrack , & I've heard a few times elsewhere recently , might have been the best of them. Others that jump to mind: Pledging My Love - Johnny Ace What a Difference a Day Makes - Dinah Washington Treasure of Love - Clyde McPhatter True Love Ways - Buddy Holly Love Will Make Your Mind go Wild - The Penquins The Flamingos did an album called "Flamingo Serenade" , of classic love songs , led by their big hit , "I Only Have Eyes for You" that will always be THE love song album in my mind. As for happy love songs , that are also great music , they're pretty rare."Ain't That Love" by Ray Charles , & "Blue Sky" by The Allman Brothers would fill the bill. Breaking with her "dark & tragic" theme , Patty's "One Big Love" would also qualify. As usual , I could go on & on , but I don't want to bore you too much , & I'm preparing for my trip to Austin for my first concert in 3 months. It's been a long , hard winter. Is it love or flying to a candle As years go by it's hard to tell As years go by it's hard to tell Patty Griffin "Buck Naked Heart" Don ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 11 Feb 2001 00:03:42 -0000 From: "Mary Abigail Ardini" Subject: Re: MM: Love songs NPC oops my last post didn't come out but one of my favorite love songs is: Kris Delmhorst-Grown Up Love Songs and Other Oxymorons - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V5 #41 ********************************
