Paul would like to take this sober opportunity to appologize for his last posting. Paul doesn't normally write emails when he's been drinking. He doesn't even usually refer to himself in the third person. Unlike beer, tequila, whiskey, scotch, wine, (insert a lovely alcohol here), etc., gin seems to make Paul a bit voicy. Nothing to see here. Move along, please. However, I still am perplexed by the setlist phenomenon. Is it like a Grateful Dead kind of thing or what? Paul will now take his 308 pounds of fat slob and roll back out. Make way. When was this song written? 2. Do any studio versions exist? 3. Is that Patty playing that slide guitar on the track? If it is, I'm even more impressed with her abilities. 4. What's the story behind the song, if anyone knows? Uh...okay...that should about do it. I have never heard a recording from before then, so I can't say when it was written.. other than it was definitely before May of '96. I believe the person playing slide guitar on the Lilith CD is the incredible Buddy Miller. I can't confirm that for sure either.. I just know that he has played solo shows with her before, and he's the only guitar player that I know of that did that while she was still a solo artist. He's really good at slide guitar too, which makes me believe my suspicions may be true. I CAN tell you that it's not her playing the slide guitar, it's definitely her playing rhythm. I've had the opportunity to hear her live enough times to distinguish Patty's playing.. :-) She has this kind of clunky (not at all an insult) sound when she plays.. much like myself when I used to play alot. She CAN play the elegant songs like Not Alone and Top of the World, just that they may not sound QUITE as polished as the do in the studio. Not that anyone really concentrates on anything but Patty's voice anyway! Lately I've noticed her guitar playing is getting even better and more smooth sounding too. I remember an interview with her a few years back (I believe '96 or '97) where she said she really never liked playing the guitar. She just used it as a songwriting tool, but never enjoyed playing the instrument. It wasn't until a year or so before the interview that she actually started to enjoy playing the guitar. It's probably been about 6 years now since she started enjoying guitar, and that could explain the somewhat clunky (just a word I use to describe it) fingering & picking she had years ago. Not everyone is naturally a graceful and smooth guitar player, but after time and hard work I think some people improve to the point of appearing and at most times sounding like a natural. Maybe it's just that it takes that long for it to feel natural, I don't know. Unfortunately, I never quite got to that point.. LOL Her fingers are also not very long which would pose more problems for her as far as fretting than it would for a normal guy's hand. Anyway, that is all.. I Love Patty Jean!! :-) Dave ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Nov 2000 19:36:44 -0500 From: "Eryn Fleming" Subject: Re: MM: disregard my last post I second that. - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michelle Nolan" To: Sent: Tuesday, November 07, 2000 4:10 PM Subject: Re: MM: disregard my last post > > I feel the same way about Paul's posts!!! > > ----Original Message Follows---- > From: "Cristina Minter" > To: iceburrrg@hotmail.com, mad-mission@smoe.org > Subject: Re: MM: disregard my last post > Date: Tue, 07 Nov 2000 08:54:59 CST > > Paul, > I would NEVER disregard one of your posts.
