Will there >*be* another release from her?? > >any/all replies appreciated. I know very little about her, but remembered reading a blurb in the Nashville Scene recently.... Here's what they said: - --- We weren't the only ones who called The Phoenix [local Americana station] about a version of Patsy Cline's "Walkin' After Midnight" that sounded uncannily like Billie Holiday. But the deejay set us straight: The voice belonged to a 22 year old New York jazz singer, Madeleine Peyroux, who'd honed her chops busking on the streets of Paris. Look it up on her 1997 Atlantic debut Dreamland, where she's backed by an all-star cast that includes sax virtuouso James Carter, guitarists Vernon Reid and Marc Ribot, and pianist Cyrus Chestnut. We hear Peyroux has moved to Nashville, which explains the good fortune of her ongoing appearances at the new Blues Hideaway club. She performs with Niecie, a band featuring hot Michigan blue guitarist and singer/songwriter Larry McCray. - --- This was listed in their "8 Days Picks" for events to attend in Nashville... Madeleine will be at the Blues Hideaway tomorrow night (Tuesday). And for a lengthy list of my favorite female artists (alphabetically... I really need to get a life, right?) -- Aimee Mann, Alana Davis, Alison Krauss, Ani Difranco, Barbara Kessler, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Beth Orton, Beth Wood, Bjork, Bonnie Raitt, Catie Curtis, Chantal Kreviazuk, Dar Williams (who I am seeing in Atlanta this weekend, whoo hoo!), Des'ree, Dixie Chicks, Dolly Parton, Edie Carey, Eddie From Ohio (Julie Murphy), Eddi Reader, Ella Fitzgerald, Erin McKeown, Everything But the Girl (Tracey Thorn), Gabrielle, Indigo Girls (Emily, especially), Jen Cohen, Jennifer Kimball, Jess Klein, Jewel, Jill Sobule, Joan Baez, Jonatha Brooke, Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, Julia Darling, Julie Miller, Kami Lyle, Kate Rusby, Kelly Willis, Kris Delmhorst, Laura Nyro, Lauren Hill, Leslie Tucker, Lisa Loeb, Lori McKenna, Lucy Kaplansky, Madonna, Maia Sharp, Macy Gray, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Martina McBride, Matraca Berg, Mazzy Star (Hope Sandoval), Natalie Merchant, Patty Griffin (DUH!), Patty Larkin, Paula Cole, Sandy Denny, Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Sinéad Lohan, Susan Werner, Swan Dive (Molly Felder), Tara Maclean, Texas (can't remember the lead singer's name...), The Nields (Nerissa & Katryna), Tori Amos, Tracy Chapman That's all. :) - -Misty, who is desperately procrastinating from starting her marketing project. She is a Celtic Folk style singer from overseas. I just found out tonight that she is going to be performing at the Ark in Ann Arbor on Wednesday the 15th of November. It's really worth checking out. I've played her songs out like I've played out Patty's. I learned of her from Cleveland independant radio. (a great song they play called "Sweet Bride") She is really worth it if you have the time to see her on Wednesday! :-) John ===== "cough" - sick people __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
