I'm still a big Tori fan - she is like no one else out there - but I find that her songs have gotten more abstract with each release. Not necessarily a bad thing, but, on a human scale, I can certainly relate to Patty's songs much more than I can to Tori's latest offerings. What other female artists or female-fronted bands do you guys like? Some of my favorites: Innocence Mission (absolutely peerless, imo) Juliana Hatfield Emmylou Harris Lucinda Williams P.J. Harvey Indigo Girls (really prefer the songs of Amy Ray here) Blondie Siouxsie and the Banshees Ah, there are so many more. Girls do rock. :-) www.thedissidents.com Starling91@aol.com wrote: > Another Tori fan here!!! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 04 Nov 2000 12:04:19 -0500 From: JOANIE WILLIAMS Subject: Re: Re: MM: Patty/ Tori Hi! I'm brand new to this list, and just discovered Patty a few weeks ago when I saw her opening up for Emmylou Harris. After that performance, it was like "Emmylou WHO?" Patty just blew me away! I can't wait for the new album to come out because I really want to hear "One More Girl" again. Does anyone have a live version of that floating around somewhere?? I'm another Tori fan, too. I think she and Patty are similar in the way they really "go for the jugular" with their lyrics. They are very in your face, brutally honest and quirky, and in some cases, maybe too personal for the listeners to really understand the meaning. (Speaking of which, does anyone have an speculation on what Patty's "Big Daddy" is about? I have one interpretation but I'd really like to hear what others think.) As for the question of what other female artists we like... - - Indigo Girls (especially Amy Ray - she has a solo album coming out in Feb.) - - Kate Bush - - Julia Fordham - - Edie Brickell - - Lisa Loeb - - Sinead O'Connor - - Innocence Mission - - Jenny Labow - - Enya (perfect music to fall asleep to) and when I'm in a more crossover-countryish mood: - - Emmylou Harris - - Lucinda Williams - - Julie Miller - - and some of the Dixie Chicks songs Joanie Williams in Fairfax, VA ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 4 Nov 2000 14:03:45 -0500 From: "Eryn Fleming" Subject: Re: Re: MM: Patty/ Tori Here's my list of favorite female artists...(besides Patty and Tori) Joni Mitchell Sarah McLachlan Jewel Ani DiFranco Joan Baez Indigo Girls Sheryl Crow Fiona Apple Dido!!! Not that it really matters, but I'd really feel remiss if I didn't also mention Sinead and Kate Bush, two of my all-time favorites. Can't believe I forgot to put them on the list. Kate makes albums about as often as Haley's Comet comes around, but "Hounds of Love" is one of the best works of the 80's, in my opinion. And Sinead is just a great, passionate writer and performer.
