What an amazing, >passionate vocal performance. I heard it's from the soundtrack to "Niagra, >Niagra." Kia Ora, do you, or anybody whatsoever, have any idea what this song is about?! Does it make sense after seeing the movie? Such strange strange lyrics - is it about Patty's grandmother Mary, or Mary, mother of, who floats around in navy blue cloaks? On the surface it's a jaunty song with those "mo ma ma mo" bits but the lyrics are quite disturbing. "She comes swinging in With her tire iron She hits everything in sight When she gets flying And in the end no one survives No, sakes alive They all die" ......... She hates herself most of all oh She can't walk She only crawls and What we gonna do about Mary [thank you lyrics page] Hmmm. I require enlightenment. Any song interpretations will be appreciated. If you were watching the show for a bit and THEN they started singing the song, well.....in that case let's just say that you are starting to scare me. She meets a guy, hits the road, and runs out of medication. Things spiral downhill quickly and in the end, few survive. My guess is the lyrics were influenced by this character. If I am wrong, I am sure someone will point it out soon. It's not a particularly uplifting movie, but as I dig human suffering on the big screen, I enjoyed it. Moses is on Bette's new album... So after seeing that Bette performed Moses last night I suddenly realized that she has a new album out with songs from her show... a quick visit to cd now revealed that Moses is indeed on her new album "Bette". ;) Also- I work at a barnes & noble music shop & we usually carry the Niagara Niagara soundtrack, so it should be relatively easy to come across... it's also got a great Lori Carson tune, plus i really love the song that Henry Thomas contributed, "truck stop coffee". peace, rick listening to: medeski martin + wood/the dropper omelet du fromage! omelet du fromage! Oooops...sorry......wasn't dissing Bette's (or Dolly's) singing....that's why I jokingly said I hoped he started watching realizing they were singing.... I was however, I guess, dissing Bette's acting, as in the last 20 years I can honestly say I haven't been able to like anything she has done acting-wise. OK, this is WAY off topic, but my 2 cents on the Bette Midler thread: I went to the taping of her sitcom last week, and was really impressed with how she seemed: hard working, kind, generous (chatting with the crew, giving backrubs to the extras, thanking the audience profusely for staying for the length of the taping [5 or 6 hrs]). Also, extra points because the song she sang a number of times during the episode was Beth Nielsen Chapman's "Sand and Water." So between that and Patty's tunes, she knows a good songwriter when she sees one. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 26 Oct 2000 18:43:08 -0400 From: "Gary Jacques" Subject: Re: MM: RE: Patty G's "Moses" hits primetime TV!
