Thank you, Don, for that great review of the Nashville show! Although I wasn't able to get into the fenced area (it was for the 21+ people, grrr), I had a decent view of Patty and the sound wasn't bad at all. This concert was very, very special for me because.... I GOT TO HEAR PATTY ACOUSTIC! I've seen Patty three or four times, but they were all Patty w/ band. I have also never seen a FULL Patty concert, the longest one was 10 songs or so. AND, I had never heard Patty sing *any* LWG songs until this show. She didn't sing "Time Will Do the Talking" or "Forgiveness" (my two favorites), but I am definitely NOT complaining because she sang "Moses," "Poor Man's House," and "Sweet Lorraine." Wow. Really, there are no words. Patty sounds amazing with a band, but nothing compares to the hearing the songs in their rarest form, just Patty & guitar. My favorite moments of the show were: - - The new jazzier "Go Now" - It's really cute and playful. - - Truth #2 (did this one have the former name of "Swing Me"?) - A very cute country flavored song, sounds kinda Indigo-Girls-ish. My vote for the next MP3 of the week! - - Waiting for Superman, the Flaming Lips song - How come I like the songs so much better when Patty sings them?! - - Dream On, the Aerosmith song - WOW, does anyone have a tape of this? Very cool. - - Silver Bell - What a rockin' song. Man. - - All the LWG songs Oh yeah, and I have to admit I was a bit starstruck when Julie told me, "The Dixie Chicks are by the stage, did you know that?". Yeah, more than starstruck. I am kicking myself for not tackling the security guard to meet them, but you know... You can't beat yourself up over these things. Don, the limo was not the Chicks, I personally saw Martie driving them off in a black BMW. No, I'm really not a stalker. Anyway, I did get my picture taken with Patty, she was very gracious to pause for that. I do agree with the person who said that Patty is becoming more comfortable with her "celebrity." Not only on stage, but with her interactions with fans. She was nice enough to sign autographs for several minutes at the Tower Records booth, when it was clear she had visitors (ie the CHICKS!) waiting for her. One thing Don did not mention - Angelo (a prominent Nashville songwriter, and Patty's co-writer on "One Big Love") joined the band for the last song, "One Big Love." I was considering not going to this show because I couldn't get in, but I am *SO* glad that I did. I got to meet fellow MMer, Laura, even though I didn't see Cristina! :( And, Don, I didn't even know you were coming to the show! Btw, I'm working on that Chinese symbol on Patty's t-shirts. With such a great show in Nashville, I almost forgot to mention seeing Patty with the Chicks in Birmingham!! She was in great form and I think the audience was fairly receptive (although I have NEVER seen so many leopard print cowboy hats, snake skin pants, and skimpy tank tops... Someone needs to tell these girls that they ALL LOOK ALIKE!). Hearing Patty sing "Let Him Fly" on the couch with the Chicks was a beautiful moment. They obviously have so much respect and admiration for her as an artist. Yikes, this email is getting a bit long. OH, yes! Since I wasn't able to get into the Uptown Mix show, I gave my camera to a friend... And the pictures turned out pretty good! I also took a picture of Patty at the Tower booth, and it's quite cute. Go here to see the pics: http://www.mtsu.edu/~mbc2b/musicpics.html Smiles, Misty P.S. I heard "One Big Love" in the dressing room at TJ Maxx today. Where is the weirdest/most surprising place you've heard a Patty song? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 Sep 2000 00:43:42 -0700 From: "zeeke5" Subject: MM: Re: Nashville show (and pictures!) Hi Does anyone know if the new album will be as "hard" as the last one? .. i don,t care as I love both. I am just curious. And.... was she "rocking" when she opened for the chicks ( to a c and w audience mostly ģI assume)..........in Toronto, the chicks had Ricky Scaggs opening...what a let down as she has never played here :( By the way, how far is Oberlin from Detroit...I might consider driving to it? Thanks everyone. zeeke ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V4 #262 *********************************
