If anyone around the Bay area can get tickets for tomorrow, you should drop everything and get there! I had never been there to Saratoga before, took the tourist route up and down rte 9 trying to find the Winery, but finally found it- nestled into the mountain, up there with a gorgeous view of the whole valley. I got the chance to talk to Vivian and Laurie- wore my Jackson Browne Everyman Digest shirt that Gordon did for us last year- my official JB concert uniform now. As I walked in, Patty Griffin was being played overhead- also during intermission! No one opened- just pure JB from 7:30- 10:40 with a short break. He had Fritz and Mauricio backing him up, so he did some band songs like I'm The Cat that he doesn't usually seem to include when alone. I didn't write down the set list- altho my friend next to me did- he was amazed that I knew the title to every song. He thinks I am a crazed fanatic I guess. The old stone winery with 1852 on it was covered with ivy- and made a good backdrop to the stage- the amphitheater was surrounded by trees, the half moon was just over the tree line to the left of the stage and so was part of the picture. Lightning bugs enjoyed the show and the stars were all out- planes crisscrossed silently above us- we must have been right under the flight pattern for San Jose- the temp was just cool enough for a sweater. It was pretty sold out- no bad seats at all- even the side bleacher seats were close to the stage compared to a large venue- audience was just fine- except for a couple of duds 2 rows in back of me of course, yak yak yak about nonsense, yuk yuk- didn't they also pay $50 for The GREAT and WONDERFUL JACKSON BROWNE to sing his heart out for them- why not give him your complete concentration? How could anyone talk thruout In the Shape Of A Heart and even Sky Blue and Black- one of my favoritest of all JB songs? Duds. Then they graced us with grass, even tho he just sang us Cocaine- Rehab. Added to the upbeat atmosphere and general sense of well-being! Anyway, I tried not to let the moment pass me by due to them, tried to hear each lyric and really just loved the whole night. The audience rose to an immediate standing ovation at the closing notes of the Pretender, so we got a few more. When he tells us "Take care of yourselves, drive safe" that is the real end of the concert I notice. From my seat he looked about 20. I was imagining him still performing in another 25 yrs- only his silky hair was white- or maybe steel grey- still flipping it out of his eyes- still looking 25 yrs younger than his stated age! Black t-shirt and jeans, etc. Still cute- sorry again guys. Oh well- next month in Sedona! Hey everyone, Long time, no cyber-talk. How's it going? How's the list? I just re-signed up for it, so someone out there has to email me and fill me in on what's been going on out here in Patty cyberspace. What is the date of her 3rd album's release? She's playing here in Nashville next week at Uptown Mix. Any Nashville MMers going? Talk soon... - -Cristina _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. Does anyone out there know where Patty Recorded the New album "Silver Bell"???? I'd like make a plea to the engineer/producer to Lay off the Lexicon 480L reverb on her voice...I love the Recordings - but they use the same 'verb, and way too much of it - all over the mix....especially on the ballads. This same reverb is used on thousands of recordings and it is so obvious to anyone who is familiar with the 480L - I mean come on guys lets get creative - try something new...anyone can patch a vocal through a Digital box.....but Patty's voice deserves better than this cookie cutter Multi-effect...and generic engineering style. OK - I'm venting here - but I just want the album to get many many Grammy's (at least get nominated) - but from what I have heard of the new album - the recording technique's distract from the Artist's Talent.....On Silver Bell there is so much reverb on the Hi hats....its like a constant stream of sound....way to much for a Hi hat- call it creative choice...but as a fan I don't like being distracted from Patty and her marvelous voice - which sounds incredible without effects....please lay off the reverb. It may have been a failed napster attempt that I listened to the section and then deleated it, but I kinda think I heard it when i saw her with the Dixie Chicks at Radio City Music Hall in NYC this summer. Was anyone there to either confirm or deny that. I know it's not a big issue, but I just couldn't place where I heard it before. ~Mollie-seriosly thinking of a road trip to see Patty in Greensburg, it's only three hours away! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Sep 2000 20:32:30 -0400 From: "Lisa Zwick" Subject: MM: Re: Top of the World/Radio City Yeah, she played Top of the World there...I saw her, too.
