Ok, so I may be the craziest Patty fan (aside from Don.. or maybe you could call us equals) .. but that doesn't mean if you feel you're not as big of a fan as others and you have a Patty thought you shouldn't post it to the list. Everyone on this list is here for one reason. Whether you are a member for only 1 day and have never seen Patty, or if you have been here since the list first started and have driven across the country on more than one occasion to see her. We are Patty FREAKS!!! Anyone's thoughts and feelings are always welcomed and appreciated. That being said, I have to thank this list for re-discovering Patty myself. After seeing her 4 times in only a 4 or 5 week span back in '96, I thought she had fallen off the face of the earth. I finally got the internet in early '98, and the FIRST thing I looked up was PATTY GRIFFIN. And low and behold, here was Mike's wonderful list! I've found out about so much, the FR CD, so many shows, rare songs (thanks to Dana from Berkley and Jen from Arizona), info from the band members etc.. I would have been without all this if not for this emailing list and all it's kind/friendly/generous members (except for the EVIL ONE.. just kidding). Thanks again everyone! To respond to the last part of Nancy's email.. >i have a show in pittsburgh this sunday night. i >won't keep you guys reading anymore, so if you're >interested, email me privately at ?harmony98@hotmail.com and i'll give you more details. Ok, so I must chime in here.. if you live within 100 miles of Pittsburgh, make sure your BUTT is there to listen to Nancy Sunday night! She is the only person on this earth that has sent that tingly feeling down the entire length of my spine like Patty has! She also is probably the only other artist besides Patty that I would be happy to listen to live EVERY night if I could. Beautiful, beautiful voice, great lyrics.. and boy is she ever pretty.. :-) (sorry about that Nancy, I just had to..) If you're still skeptical, her website is at www.paperwings.de There are sound clips there to check out, as well as lyrics and the usual stuff. Ok, I'll stop rambling now.. Patty, Nancy Micciulla, and Darcie Miner rule! :-) Dave ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Jun 2000 11:57:17 -0400 From: "Jennifer Lynn Caputo" Subject: MM: contest stuff WOW!!!!! from midnight until 10 am this morning I received over 45 emails! You people just come out of the woodwork sometimes!!! heheh I'd like to say a few things: 1. You all are the nicest bunch of people out there! A lot of you have been giving little testimonials as to why you think certain people deserve the cds - you have been so kind and sweet to your fellow list members! I hope nobody minds but when I announce the winners I am going to pass on some of your comments to them - I know it will make their days! 2. A lot of you have been saying that you want to vote for me (because of the mp3 page and stuff) - and I'm really honored that you all think I deserve the cd but there are 2 things I should tell you: 1. I already have a cd! heheh 2. The mp3 page wouldn't be possible if it wasn't for Jeff (who is providing me with the space). So from now on anyone planning on voting for me should cast their votes for Jeff instead! 3. Again - so many of you are thanking me for this contest - I'm just running it and I am not the one to be thanked. I'm not sure if our record company fellow wants to remain anonymous or not so i won't post his name until I hear from him, but he is the one who was generous enough to donate all of this stuff and supply shipping - this is putting him out hundereds of bucks! This guy rocks - everyone say "Thank you Record Company Fellow!!!" :-) 4. The personal stories I have been getting are fabulous! A lot of members are sending me little stories about their Patty moments and they are so great - maybe I can put them all together on a webpage for a little "Great Patty Stories" page. I got one girl who's sister used to work with Patty at Harvard - answering phones! So now i'm gonna tell a little story that Patty told in MI: The song Boston was written about her time living there and working at Harvard University. Patty says "I'm about to diss boston" hehe She worked answering phones. Patty was always very tired there so she would answer the phone kinda snappy at times "harvard may i help you?" One time I woman from another school had called and Patty had to put her on hold - the woman, not knowing that Patty could still hear her said to her friend "She's such a bitch". To hear patty say the word Bitch is hilarious - I think it melted Dave's heart! ok..that was my detour (maybe I'll post the mp3 of that story later). It is a rally concert protesting the NRA on the eve of the National Republican Convention. The confirmed performers are Better Than Ezra, Blessid Union of Souls, The Samples, Leslie Nuchow, Melissa Ferrick and more to come. Even if you aren't in the Philly area you should check out Leslie's story at www.slammusic.com, very inspiring!! Kinda mouthy for a newbie, eh? The only reason I posted it on this list was because I figured Patty listeners would also enjoy Leslie and Melissa's music. I couldn't ignore the whole reason for the concert in the post. When I joined the list it said that if you have any non patty news just to make sure you post it in the subject which I did. I don't have very much to trade... but I do have all of the Patty MP3s from Jen's site and I can burn them to CD for you. I also have all of her soundtrack songs (Regarding Mary, Copenhagen, Beyond the Blue, Twisted Road) and I could burn those to CD for you too. I also have some Dar Williams bootlegs & rare tracks and Cry Cry Cry interviews/bootlegs. Oh yeah, I also have Patty's performance on Mountain Stage on tape. I woke up this morning at 10:30 after a night of drinking and getting to bed around 5:30. It's too bad I didn't hear my alarm go off at 7 because I was 3 hours late for my first job of the day. There's nothing better than crawling from bar to bar every now and then. It's good for the....eh....well, probably nothing. But that doesn't mean it's not phun. And I was drinking Guinness. And that is good for you...it's got flavanoids or something. At the very least it keeps you regular. The real reason I'm posting though is that I'm "sharing" here, just like kindergarten. I'm sharing that I'm planning on driving to Jacksonville to see Patty Griffin...then probably sneak out before the Chicks hit the stage. That show is I believe October first. So, if anybody lives over in that area (that would be Jacksonville, Florida not some other State), could you possibly let me know when those tix are available???? That would be max grand, as I'm a Patty Griffin phanatic, but never have seen her live. It's just like my life that the time I leave Pennsylvania is the time Ms. Griffin apparently tours extensively there. Or maybe she did before and I didn't know about her or something. Ah, Dave will know (he knows quite a lot about Patty). Hey Dave...was Ms. Griffin touring PA extensively before 1997? If she was, then it's my bad for not knowing. But if she wasn't, then something's afoot at the circle K. Oh, by the way, Dave. Laetitia is doing fine over in France. I think our long-distance relationship is working out well. On another note... I almost put Patty Griffin in a package I was editing today. Why didn't I, might you ask. And you very well may ask it. Well, it was because when I left my house/cottage/apartment/hole this afternoon for my second job (in which I was late for that as well)I took about 15 CDs with me for possibilities in the tunage department. The package showed highlights of the USS Enterprise when it came by NAS Pensacola last Weekend. Us media got to take the tour and have a Q&A with the Commander before the thousands poured in to tour it. But anyway, I had Flaming Red in my hand, and opened the jewelcase....and then closed it back up because it's empty. But HAD THAT FREAKIN CD BEEN IN ITS JEWELCASE, then I probably would have used "Carry Me" for some of the footage....especially that "..over the ocean.." part. That upset me because now Flaming Red is MIA. But this is paltry stuff here. I need to get ready for Caribbean Festival going on this weekend. Apparently they've got "jumbo-specialty coctails" or something, and I can't pass that up. Are liver transplants an out-patient process these days? I might need a new one after this summer. Ahh the beautiful sounds of a Guinness tap. I can hear it calling my name....(okay, phsssssssss doesn't exactly sound like Paul; but how honking cool would that be if it did?). need to ankle. Work is about done for the night. Time to partay! peace, love, and vegetable rights. paul, the NRA-loving, gun-owning, red-blooded American *********************************** * Don't ask me 'Hank, why do you * * drink.' and 'Hank, why do you * * roll smoke.
