They still rave about it everytime they play it back. They said the station came to a stop while she was doing it. They put it on their compliation disc, "On The Mountain V". Great CD. You might find one on Ebay. By the way, Patty also appears on Ellis Paul's new "Live" CD on a couple of songs. john in sumner wa ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! In this interview she talks about how her father was a monk before he met her mother (obviously), and that once they got married, they went nuts and had lots of kids. I have no idea if Patty is still a practicing Catholic, or even a Christian, but that's all that I know about her religious upbringing. Well, those PBS kind of people in my local area have finally deemed "Austin City Limits" worthy (once again) to grace the Stations broadcasting. As I sit here gorging myself with Potato Chips, I can plainly see the TV guide saying "Saturday May 6, Austin City Limits, 10:00pm." It's about time. They took it off for a while...probably about three months... and foam was starting to build in my mouth. I was gonna have to get wit mah peeps and do some damage. Austin City Limits will be the second time I've gotten to see Patty Griffin...the first being that "whatever it was" show in February with what's his name. Still no live performances. The dixie chicks are scheduled to only be A FREAKING HOUR AND A HALF AWAY......WITH SOMEONE ELSE. AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!!!! And again three hours away.....STILL WITH A DIFFERENT SOMEONE ELSE! KILL KILL KILL! Finally, I do believe the DCs will be FIVE hours away with Patty Griffin, so I guess I can shoot for that one. Although, driving in my car for five hours in summer is like getting branded, only a much longer process. ********warning, no longer on the Patty Content type of thing******* So, that Austin City Limit show is the time for all of you in the Santa Rosa County area of Florida from this list....(hey, that would be me since I seem to be the only one on this list in Florida anyway). :P Just a little gloating there. I had such an absophantasticalutely weekend I just can't help myself. I windsurfed on Sat, and jetskied on Sun. And now my beautiful little cable modem has been hooked up this morning with this phat ass new computer I put together yesterday. However, that still doesn't mean I won't kick Bill Gates' ass if I ever meet him in an elevator. The other phat ass new computer I bought (only a month ago) turned out not to be so phat assed...which made me finally break it into little pieces and mail individual junk-metal packets back to Office Depot....all because of a microsoft windows problem, but I'm digressing. And this no longer has ANYTHING to do with Patty Griffin, so I'm finishing up the post now. Coincidentally , the "Wiggley Fingers" > song that's the current subject of discussion , seems to reflect > this disenchantment more than any other. I would agree....not that I know anything about Patty's spiritual/religious upbringing or current beliefs...and not that it is really my business, this is just mere speculation of what I get out of her music. It seems like she talks a lot about god and other religious icons and ideologies but in a way, I can almost see/hear a little twist on that.... "I need Moses to part this sea of lonliness...." - kind of like, "well if he can part the red sea, why the hell can't i get some help? why am i so distressed?" I think it's something we've all felt, no matter what our spiritual beliefs. We all feel from time to time, "well if there are such higher powers why the hell am i so miserable?" or something to that effect. Another example I hear is "...god tends to every little skinny sheep, so count your ribs and say your prayers and get to sleep..." that song sounds like she's saying that those who have suffered will know happiness in heaven, but i can also hear the sarcasm in it as well. like, "they say god looks out for those who are suffering, but then why are they suffering?" who knows? maybe it's just what *i'm* getting out of the music and the lyrics....in fact, it probably IS. I just thought I'd put my $.02 in..... i know there are other examples where I've felt this sort of sarcastic, ironic tone about religion (Wiggly Fingers was a good example, Don) I just can't think of any others right now. But you guys get what I mean, right??? :) haha... it's been a long day and I'm tired and I really wanted to make a coherent response....ah well.... i tried... :) Not caring what anyone's spiritual beliefs are but my own, Blessed be and Live Free.... Subject: MM: Tom Waits hey guys, > AND ALSO, I love Tom Waits - and I heard from a friend of mine that Patty sat and did a piano song which was one of TW's.........is it off of "Bone Machine?" Or, actually, if she said the name of the tune, and you remember it - what was it? I'm not really a piano player......but I love hearing her diversity. So if anyone could help me out - I'd appreciate it! Just bein' curious.........thankee! > Ok, the song that Patty played in Michigan on piano was called "Take It With > Me".. at least, that was what she said the song was called. It is indeed called "Take It With Me," off the wonderful new (Grammy-winning!) album "Mule Variations." If you're wanting to get into Tom's songwriting and piano playing, I'd also highly recommend "Small Change" and "Closing Time" (pre-scratchy-voice Tom). Although his whole back catalog is worth buying... I, personally, would LOVE to hear Patty cover "Ruby's Arms." On an unrelated note, are the Patty dates in Alexandria, VA (7/2) and Washington D.C. (7/4) off or on? Someone posted that the July 4th show had been cancelled and the Birchmere show would be rescheduled... but I just checked the official site and those dates are still listed... along with a TON of dixie chicks opening slots... So the site can't be that out of date... I just need to know one way or the other so I can make plans to road trip... - --rICH Listen to Rich: Visit THE RICH HOMEPAGE to hear tracks from LIFE/DEATH... 15 songs of romance and retribution for those who know all too well...
