Ok, I am totally disappointed, Patty was supposed to be on Sessions tonight I thought, but no instead they are showing Cheryl Crow and Macy Gray again?!!! I'm in Colorado, does anyone have a clue as to why Patty's show wasn't shown? I was at the taping and have been waiting with the rest of you for what has felt like forever. If I have totally missed her I am not gonna be happy! Well, I emailed my local PBS station earlier this week, just to make sure that the Sessions w/Patty would be on this Saturday night/Sunday morning. They emailed me back and said that it would not be on until the next night, one night later than advertised. I don't know if this is the case everywhere or not, as it seems Sheryl Crow was on everywhere last night! Also.. YES, I did buy the new Darcie Miner CD and it is Fantastic! Every song on it is great. The Badlees are her band on the CD as well, which certainly says a lot for how good she is! As Darcie mentioned, you can buy the CD by emailing her at runrunrun@dellmail.com It comes HIGHLY recommended by this Patty fan! For those of you that don't already know, you can check out song and video clips for her at www.darcieminer.com There is an awesome video clip of her doing Patty's "Change". If that doesn't get you excited about her ... well, I can't believe you are a Patty fan! :-) Ok, well I'm looking forward to the "supposed" Patty Sessions tonight! ..and looking forward to trying to see all the fellow MMer's in attendance w/me! Cristina, Nancy, Scott, Don, Mary, Kristen, Rachel, Michelle, and the list goes on and on! GO Patty, Go MM'ers! :-) Dave ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 Feb 2000 15:01:59 PST From: "Paul Russell" Subject: MM: SESSIONS CONSPIRACY ha ha. Patty was supposed to be on Sessions tonight I thought, but no instead they are showing Cheryl Crow Well, maybe you WERE actually watching the Patty Griffin Sessions taping since Ms. Griffin seemed to be sporting the "Sheryl Crow" look complete with black leather trench and jeans. I thought, "hey, is this Sheryl Crow here?". I missed the intro part of Patty Griffin since I clicked around until Wilco finished. But I tuned in right before "Mary." I must say it was pretty awesome. My favorite song was by far "Silver Bell." That just totally rocked the house. I didn't think Griffin had it in her to be a rocker, but damn that was good. I also really dug the grins she gave whenever she messed up the piano part while doing "Peter Pan." It was one of those winces that say, "Oops. I can't believe I just did that." Totally cute. Anyway. I thought it was a great set of performances by Ms. Griffin and band people.....even though I only got to see her do Mary, Flaming Red, Silver Bell, Carry Me, and Peter Pan. Flaming Red was nice and nasty as usual, but for some reason I didn't fall over and die like I do when I hear it on the CD...it seemed a bit rusty. ******Danger Will Robinson!!******* now for some criticism of the show. Well, uh. hmmmm. You know, I thought it was kind of funny that here you have this John Hiatt guy (who may be one of the best musicians/songwriters of our time mind you) give half-assed questions to "Ms. one-word-answer" herself (the almighty Patty Griffin). So, I really found myself shaking my head during the interview. Mainly cuz it consisted of such "edge-of-the-seat" discussions like: JH - "So, Flaming Red is your second album out, huh?" PG - "Yeah." JH - "It's such a great album." PG - "Thanks." JH - "And your previous album, Living With Ghosts, that one is different than this one?" PG - "Yes. It's all acoustic." JH - "Yeah, it's a great album too." In my Pain-in-the-ass opinion, I thought that here we have this knowledgable musician host dude (who can't interview well) interviewing a shy Patty Griffin (who doesn't seem to be a very good interviewee). It was like pulling teeth to get either one to say anything. For some reason I was expecting a lot more after hearing so much praise for this show. I kept seeing posts like "Sessions is the only show I watch" and "Sessions is the only show that has merit on TV." The music segments kick ass, but the interview part was truly a boot to the head. You know, I could be wrong. Maybe for the past two weeks they were showing John Hiatt in some bad moments. But come on. He's fidgeting with the cue cards, stumbling over everything he says, reading the TelePrompTer with hardly any emotion. On the other side of the Cantina, while Ms. Patty Griffin (as cute and as talented as she is) can perform like a beauty, she needs to practice a bit on being interviewed and how to answer questions. The point of the questions are to illicit reasonable (and preferably lengthy) responses. I know I sound cranky. I'm not really. I'm just a bit preoccupied. That and I'm a dick too, I suppose. :P later. gotta go do some down-home drankin. paul (who unlike one person on this list, can still drink in grad school) (yeah crutch yeah) (hold me up you beautiful bottle of tequila!!) ****************************** * Your clothes. I was happy Patty answered a few of my questions... I just kept sending them in over and over, I think that's what you had to do to get their attention... Anyway, I'm sorry to everyone who didn't get their questions answered... But out of curiousity, what kind of questions did you want the answers to? I mean, which question did you ask that didn't get answered but you *really* wanted it to? And to Jessica--Rarities is a listener-made collection of songs (non-album ones) that have been recorded from live shows, radio, etc. I'm sure if you simply post a nice message to the list asking for a copy of the Rarities tape, then you will be blessed! It's that easy cause there are a lot of nice, sharing people on this list. Smiles, Misty :) In a message dated 2/13/00 12:37:58 AM, owner-mad-mission-digest@smoe.org writes: << I asked Patty a question : What is this rarities thing and where can I get it? I agree about the frustration thing, though, but not because they couldn't get to all the questions; SONY was giving that Dixie person all the time and neglecting many other good questions. >> ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 Feb 2000 17:47:26 PST From: "Sean Palen" Subject: Re: MM: SESSIONS!! Hi All, Last night I had the privilege to watch Patty on Sessions twice! Lucky dog that I am. I was disappointed she shared the show with another muscian, gracing our living rooms with just one half hour. I too thought Patty's little smiles when she "messed up" during Peter Pan adorable. But I do have to say I just love Frank!! Frank if you are reading this, thanks for making me smile, you are great! I am a massage therapist (a good one too! I have given quite a few of the performers at the Keswick Theater massages). I would be honored to give you or any of the band, Patty too, a massage. Next time that you come to the Keswick Theater in Glenside, please e-mail me (in advance) at this hotmail address or Desertwalker@pa.freei.net, or if Bauder production management is involved with sound and lights just ask Kenny, Joey or King to give me a call. Or you could ask the manager of the Keswick, Roy, to locate me. Try not to go through the chiropractors office he will rape you with the charges, I do it on my own in my house. Now after that commercial break.... back to Sessions. I recorded it. I have shown it to at least 5 or 6 people today. Of which they were so impressed they are going out and purchasing the CD's. More Patty fans were born today. Peace be with you, Karla ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 13 Feb 2000 22:45:12 EST From: Shamawy@aol.com Subject: Re: MM: I stand entirely corrected.
