I never saw any of my 5 or 6 questions come up in the chat. It was interesting, but I became frustrated and logged off before it was over. What songs (if any) from the "Rarities" collections are liable to make it onto her new release? How many of the rarities were actually written by Patty? (I know that Nebraska, Stolen Car and Crazy are covers--are a lot of the others cover versions of more obscure material, or are they PG originals?) And, of those Patty originals, does anyone know how long ago they were written (or first performed), figuring that the older stuff has little chance of being included in the new CD since it didn't make the cut for LWG or FR? A million thanks in advance to anyone who can ease my inquiring mind. They are all asking about the rescheduled show in New Hampshire. Can anyone tell me what the new date of that show is so I can email them back and update my website? I'm guessing you were Jules. I tried to get 3 questions in, and none of them were answered. I felt kind of snubbed by the whole process. But the chat was good, otherwise. - -Sandi "Everything before is gone, or going somewhere." -Patty Griffin, "One Big Love" > From: Julie E Graham > Date: Wed, 09 Feb 2000 21:29:50 -0600 > To: mad-mission@smoe.org > Subject: MM: Patty chat - careful dodging > > Hey gang! Obviously not in terms of content (questions were obviously repeated) but simply by "feeding" questions to Patty in some sytematic way. Oh well. I enjoyed Patty's responses anyway. The main reason I'm responding is that I remembered your "age/Patty's most moving songs" post where you expressed many of the same things I perceive about her. I've seen her 8 times in those 7 months , & think the best clues about the new CD come from there. From the Rarities , I think the only ones that have a chance, are "One More Girl" ,"Silver Bell", & "Nobody's Crying" b/c they are the only ones that she's been playing. She's stated a number of times during those concerts that she was trying out new songs & getting ready to cut her new CD. On different occasions , she said that "Little God" & "Makin' Pies" was going to be on it. She's been playing "One More Girl" pretty often , so that would be my next guess. "Perfect White Girls" is a new one that she's been playing a lot also. From there, I'd say "Swing Me South" , "Boston" & "Top of the World" as far as her own compositions go. She's also been playing "Tomorrow Night" a lot. She said that Bob Dylan covered it , but didn't say who wrote it.(I think that "Even Here" is the only one besides the the ones you mentioned from Rarities that is a cover.)I think that "Night" from her 2nd Fez show has a chance because it's new & it is a piano song. She also played "Cain" on the last set of her cruise performances. "Half a Person" by the Smiths has been played pretty frequently lately too , as was "Darkness on the Edge of Town" by "The Boss". I agree that Patty has more great unreleased work than most artists have in their entire repertoire. She could release another great CD with just the songs from Rarities. I hope I helped to ease any inquiring minds.
