I myself am 21. I first heard OF Patty when I was 17 and heard her live when I was 18. She is now definitely a big part of my life. I started the lyrics archive almost two years ago this April, mostly because I didn't know all the words to a lot of her songs and I figured if they were all kept in the same place, other people could help me fill in the blanks. It's been a huge sucess... and I still don't know if Patty's ever been to it. I talked to her keyboard player who mentioned visiting it, then asking if it had been taken down due to copyright violations *gulp*. It hasn't been taken down, but that definitely threw a scare into me.Everyone keep your fingers crossed :) I have to say, I'm 21 and I've never really been a big drinker, but the fun of being 21 hasn't worn off yet. I still get excited when I get to go to a restaurant and order a drink "like an adult" (which I in no way feel that I am). So I guess being 21 holds appeal for even those light drinkers ;) And Paul.... isn't EVERY weekend a Guinness weekend for you ? ;) Rachel :D ******************************************** *I wouldn't know her ass * * From a deep hole in the ground * *Lined with bushes and a fence * * That the neighbors placed around * *Make a child with me * * The Patty Griffin Lyrics Archive * ******************************************** ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 04 Feb 2000 11:23:05 -0600 From: Paz Man Subject: Re: MM: a ? doh.....43 years old. My illusion is 51 1/2. It doesn't prevent me from going out and playing music in bars, which I'll be doing tonight and tomorrow night. Played one instrument or another for most of my life. My current band, Something Black, comprises 3 members, one of whom, Courtney Malley lurks on this list. The two of us also volunteer at Philly Folk Fest, and are stage managers at Appel Farm Arts and Music Fest in June. I see lots of Philly area folks on the list, so check out our webpage, and drop by to see us make noise. Never a cover and we only play joints that serve Guinness, Murphy's, or Young's Oatmeal Stout. Besides all this other stuff, I'm married, dad to two boys who both play guitar, and do the festivals with me. Both of them can identify most female singer songwriters in under 8 bars of music. I run e-mail lists for Susan Werner, Karen Savoca, and occasionally help out on the Lucy Kaplansky, Dar Williams, and Jonatha Brooke discussion lists, as well as do webpages for various artists. I'm 36 (37 in May), live in Manhattan and have been a Patty fan since 1996. My wife saw Patty for the first time opening for Shawn Colvin and Freedy Johnston when we were living in Michigan a few years ago. I became an instant fan after her rave review of Patty's performance (my wife had never heard of her at that point) and we went out and bought LWG. I am now a fanatic and have seen Patty three times - all in 1999: First time solo at The Fez in NYC in April, then at "Sessions" in early October and finally opening for Richard Thompson at The Keswick outside of Philly in November. All were unbelievable shows, with The Fez solo performance probably my favorite. My first ever concert was at 14 way back in 1978 in a performance by that (then) artrock band featuring the short, balding (unknown at the time) lead singer who has since gone on to middle-of-the-road adult contemporary stardom (tastes certainly change, huh?). I certainly have not grown tired of going to concerts 22 years on; although a beer or two is about all I'll have before or during a show these days! Glad to be a part of a great newsgroup... I mentioned "Bring The Family" but Brad argues that it's too dark for most at first; and that "Slow Turning" contains his best work, hands down, including "Feels Like Rain," which is, agreeably, his very best song.
