Patty used to always sign her CD's starting with the person's name...then, "thanks for listening.." peace, Patty Griffin.. Every time I've ever seen her sign something for someone she always asks them for their name so she can write it on whatever she's signing. It's a really good way to make sure people don't sell those items. I mean, WHO wants something signed to Kenny, by Patty Griffin if your name is NOT in fact Kenny?? As a sports fan, I especially hate it when people do these things like this to make a buck by using someone else's name. There are actually people in the sports memorabilia business that pay kids money (usually like $50 a day) to hang out at the nearest sports complex to get pro athletes cards and other memorabilia signed. They will send these kids out with entire books full of cards for all the players that will be there that day. Since a child is much more likely to get an autograph from an athlete than a grown man is...their $50 is to say the least, well spent. I've actually seen kids get a guys' autograph, then stand back for a minute and get it over and over again. For a star like Mark McGwire for instance, that sports memorabilia dealer has just made his money back 10 times over on one player alone! Then there is the issue of what's authentic and what's a fraud...and how does the buyer know?? Just b/c it has a certificate of authenticity does NOT mean it's real. So sorry to go on and on, but this is one of those things that really provokes me about some people today... my advice, if you didn't actually witness an item being autographed, do not assume that any autograph is authentic. Unfortunately, there are way too many people out there today eager enough to steal your hard earned money ANY way they can. So when the J-cards are ready to send to each branch, I will forward batches of 5-10 of you to each branch to send your tapes to- except for the 10 people who have already been given my address and are already sending their tapes to me. Use 100 min tapes- High Bias. Maxell XL11. Bubble pak mailers are less dusty than fiberfill mailers and the postage should be included in the pak for return postage. I think it is around 78 cents each way. Of course it is understood that no money will exchange hands and no there will be no profit to anyone- this is only a gift- a labor of love. The branch volunteers should not have to incur any out of pocket expenses, other than time taping and running to the post office. Here is the set list for those who have asked. I think if I was famous I would try to affect as many people as I could by maybe putting messages on their stuff. (ie - Dave, thanks for listening, don't smoke! lots of love, John) Okay, maybe something more achievable, but hey... trying to make a difference. Later! ===== :-) John __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I have the title of Fiona Apple's new album. She's one of the artists I respect the most as a poet and "Sonic.Net" seems to give the new album good reviews. It comes out November 9th. I think that's also the day that Natalie Merchant's new live album hits stores. I don't know if it's just a poem or maybe a song, but the album title is 90 words long, so I thought it'd be interesting to share it with you all. Here it is...
