Hi all, I just thought I'd tell everyone that in May, I'm going from Canada to Ghana, Africa to work for 5 months. As someone who is not of finacial means it is something I never thought I'd have the opportunity. But through a WONDERFUL organization called Canadian Crossroads International, I'M GOING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been told that it is a good idea for me to bring "north american" gifts for the local people and music is recommended. I have been a huge Patty Griffin fan since the night in September 1996 when I saw her open for Jann Arden. So I've decided to take copies of rarities and LWG with me! (NPC from here down) I've been in love with Tori Amos' music since LE and I'm an avid Tori trader. I'm having difficulty deciding what to take with me though. Any suggestions??? (Dixie Chicks one hour gig on TV) Anyone know if the Dixie Chicks performed Patty's "Let Him Fly" at their Sessions@W54th gig? Mike http://www.sessionsatwest54th.com/upcoming.html November 19 Dixie Chicks (One-Hour Special) This has been an incredible year for the Dixie Chicks, one of the most popular country acts on the contemporary scene. Their multi-platinum major-label debut, Wide Open Spaces, has remained ensconced at the top of the Billboard Top 200 chart, now for over 80 weeks. In August they released Fly, which reached #1 on the pop and country charts its first week. The trio, Natalie Maines, Martie Seidel and Emily Erwin, sings three-part harmony. Their natural charm and wily ways with songs have made them one of the most accomplished touring acts in the country, headlining and selling out large arenas on a regular basis. Their visit to SESSIONS AT WEST 54TH is an intimate treat and a unique showcase for their unforgettable country music. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Oct 1999 20:15:53 EDT From: UMCaner74@aol.com Subject: MM: bite wounds, MORE bloody fingers, and the greatest feeling on earth Hey guys, Ok...so let me start off by telling those of you that don't already know that I am a veterinary technician. Every day, I am bitten at, scratched at, and attempted to be maimed by these cats and dogs that I love SO MUCH. Very rarely are they ever quick enough to actually bite me though... So yesterday, a cat bites me multiple times through these THICK leather gloves,(that are made with the sole purpose of preventing such things from happening). It bites into my hand, through my fingernail on my thumb in 2 different places, and I end up with multiple puncture wounds on both hands. My thumb looks like it has been through the garbage disposal, the fingernail was pretty much torn off.. For those of you with weak stomachs, I'll stop there. Thankfully it was on my left thumb or I wouldn't be able to type this. Just think what you'd be missing then. :-) Since cat bites are the world's WORST things as far as causing infection, I had to go directly to the doctor, bloody fingers and all... I go down to my car, and OF COURSE, Flaming Red is in the CD player. It was a beautiful day, not a cloud in the sky. As I'm driving down the road with my hands bleeding and shaking from the severe pain of a cat bite...I'm drawn away from the pain by this feeling that suddenly comes over me... I suddenly realized that driving down the road on such a gorgeous day, blaring Patty's music is the greatest feeling I could ever have! Regardless of the fact that I was on my way to the doctor where I was about to receive a tetanus shot, as well as god knows what else, I was DAMN HAPPY to be out of work and rocking out to Patty G! I swear that driving down the road and listening to Tony and Blue Sky at a relatively high volume has to be one of the greatest feelings in the world! Ok, that's my little story of how the beauty of Patty's voice made me over come fear, a lousy day, and SEVERE pain, at least during my time in the car...
