That happened here in Kentucky, in a great lil' venue called Headliners. Right in front there was a single blonde guy so enthralled with the music that he could not, for the life of him, stay still. So, he was a singular image, dancing this way and that...until he was told to stop dancing by scrooge up in front. Patty was so cute afterwards, though...she said, "I dont mind if you all dance." The crowd went so crazy and I know that for that one crazy blonde guy in the front, it made his night. She is just really great. - -lil kate ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Oct 1999 15:43:08 EDT From: Flakeybird@aol.com Subject: MM: another Sessions question First, what beautiful sentiments from John of Patty's band. John, I saw you last at the Fastlane where I was inches away from you. You looked like a nice guy even then and now I know you are. My question is this...who is now hosting Sessions? I heard David Byrne isn't hosting this year. - -Sharyn Murray -- I'm no flake -- this is an ill-fitting yet unforgetable nickname. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Oct 1999 15:53:13 -0400 (EDT) From: rachel kramer bussel Subject: Re: MM: another Sessions question John Hiatt On Mon, 4 Oct 1999 Flakeybird@aol.com wrote: > First, what beautiful sentiments from John of Patty's band. Patty kicked ass and took names. All I kept thinking was how much i LIKED her with the band, and when they went away so she could solo I actually caught myself wanting them back. So here's my story of the event-my fiance Tom and I got there around 1, when the line was still forming on the wrong side of the building. We started talking to Liz (who we've known for years) and slowly more people we knew began to show up. I kept on taking out my M&Ms, then putting them away, because I didn't see anybody else with them. When they finally let people in, we were in the first group of people. They put us in the third row that was to the right of the stage-not the best seats, because Tom is tall. All these people got to sit in front of us and as I returned from the bathroom I complained to my friends in line that they shouldn't bother trying to get a good seat if they were tall. Scary headphone lady heard me and barked that if I didn't like where I was sitting, there were empty seats in the back. I slinked back to my seat. After shooting our two (or three?) commercials for Borders Patty came out to great applause. Tom grabbed me a copy of the setlist, and the set went in this order : Mary Tony Flaming Red Goodbye Silver Bell Little God Carry Me Not Alone (solo) Making Pies (solo) Peter Pan (w/ piano and guitar) After the first two songs Patty started rocking incredibly hard. It was So difficult to stay in my seat because I was totally blown away! I've never enjoyed a band so much that played so loudly. About those people in the front row- I think maybe they were just nervous about the cameras, so they were trying to stay still. I know I stopped bouncing every time the dolly went by. This was the first time I heard Making Pies, a song she said was new. it's about a woman who works at the TableTalk Pie Factory in Worcester, MA, and makes pies. She tells some stories bout her life. It's sweet and kind of sad. No, I don't have the lyrics to it- anyone? My seats ended up being pretty good, except I couldn't see her at the piano. After the show I met up with a bunch of friends (since I'd seen so few MMers at the show and my friends were talking to me), and we went to Beefsteak Charlie's (anyone ever gotten a pitcher of wine with their food before?). All went well the rest of the night. It was GREAT and hopefully it'll look even better on TV :) Rachel :D ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Oct 1999 13:38:02 -0700 (PDT) From: ruby maroon Subject: MM: Patty and her band. How cool is it that the band cares enough to respond to us 'Faithful fans' on this list by thanking us for being supportive. I would say that this group of people RULES! Patty and her band RULES for being the group of guyes that they are. There is nothing more bitchen' than when people are REAL and TRUE. I feel that we are these qualities as a group and individually. Keep on keeping on. For Patty: please come to the west coast, I know it's not your favorite but girl you got alot of fans out here. Thank you very much for sharing your story and your wisdom. I wanted to mention about Darrin #2 from Bewitched... i saw a profile on Entertainment Tonight just this weekend on him... in his interview before his death, he was very concerned that everyone assumed that he was dying of AIDs because he was publically known for being gay. He actually died from prostate cancer. Mimi in Austin ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V3 #284 *********************************
