Good for you Mike! I too, did my first open mike night last Sunday at a place called the C note in the east village. It took me eight years to do it but I finally did and am so proud of myself. You should be too. I flubbed more than just one chord and as luck would have it my brand new guitar string busted 30 seconds into my opening number! But I borrowed a guitar and finished much more relaxed and a little more confidant. I have to say that seeing Patty play at the Fez alone with her guitar over a year ago was the ispiration that finally took me to the stage. Thanks Patty!!!! Michael J. Thanks. Boston Rocker Laurie Geltman will be performing at my home in Watertown, MA on Nov. 7. As you probably know, Patty Griffin appears on Laurie's new CD "No Power Steering", so I thought some of the mad mishers might be interested in seeing Laurie too. Her music is awesome. If anyone in the Boston area is interested, email me and I will gladly send you detailed information. Listen to sound clips and find out about her at: www.lauriegeltman.com. Thanks again. I just wanted to say that my name is Tina, too, and I also live in Baltimore. I saw Patty for the first (and only) time at Shriver Hall w/Lu Williams on Mother's Day. I was so pleasantly surprised to see those two perform at Shriver Hall that I called the promoter after the show to thank him for bringing such a line-up to Baltimore (and not DC or NoVA). He said he'd like to do it again, but he implied that the near-capacity turn-out was a fluke, and that Lu and Patty were pretty expensive (actually, more Lu than Patty!) to bring into town. He didn't sound quite convinced that such a turn-out could be matched--or even surpassed--in the near future. On top of all that, he said that JHU is not that cooperative in putting on shows there. If there are any other Lu/Patty fans in the Baltimore area (or any of you who can make it to a Baltimore show), please help me try and convince the promoter to do it again! Here is his fax #; I think it's better to drop him a short, polite fax encouraging him to bring Patty and Lu back (though not necessarily together) than to inundate him with voice mails!: Upfront Promotions fax # 410-653-5226 - --- Femboty2k@aol.com wrote: > I'm confused? It's on the 25th at 10 pm at the Dark Star (158 w. 72nd) and there's a $3 cover. I would love to meet some of you if you can make it... There are 2 (maybe 3) openers and it shouldn't go any later than 11:30. More details on my website (plus soundclips from the new cd are there as well). Hey everyone, I just read that post about Patty's surgery. I don't want to sound like I'm too freaked out or anything here, but does anyone know the extent of it, and what exactly it's for?? I'm seriously hoping that it's nothing serious for OBVIOUS reasons. I keep thinking that she's been on tour an awful long time for someone who uses her voice, and performs to the level that she does EVERY night. I'm sure she puts quite a strain on her vocal chords. If anyone has any confirmed info it would be greatly appreciated. Let's all pray for Patty's speedy recovery! That's usually tooth work of some sort. I doubt very much this had anything to do with the vocal chords/throat. She supposedly played the TLA, but I haven't seen any posts. Did she really have a show there. I heard about it at the last minute & couldn't make it. Also, if anyone out there has any live tapes or CD's to trade please contact me. I don't have any Patty shows but I do have some other things that might be of interest. Thanks - -Greg ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Sep 1999 00:01:55 EDT From: UMCaner74@aol.com Subject: Re: MM: Patty's vocal chord surgery...?? (oral, ain't vocal chord) Whew!, Thanks for clearing that up Mike! I of course know that oral is not vocal chord since I work in the medical profession. :-) I must have read about something with her mouth, and SUDDENLY my imagination went horribly wrong and I imagined the worst, then things got confused. That happens to me ALOT. I was worried that maybe she had nodes or something that had to be removed from her vocal chords, because I know sometimes that can be a long recovery. Anyway, sorry to misread or misinterpret that post, and thanks for the quick response so that I can rest more easily tonight. Not that oral sugery is something to look forward to, but It is such a relief to know that Patty will be OK!
