I know what you mean. And I can see your points of view. It's kinda like you don't pay an artist to make you a painting and then tell her exactly how to do it. Because then why have the artist in the first place. However, I still have these weird "poor me" thoughts about musicians. I guess it stems from a little of two things. One, when I watched VH1 behind the scenes of Rob and Fab (milli vanili)...yeah I actually watched that, god knows why....and I was thinking, "hey, why should I feel sorry for them?" Cuz you know how that show gets. It tells you about the hardships musicians go through, blah blah blah. "oh poor Rob and Fab did this and almost jumped out of a building.." yeah, boo-hoo boo-hoo...next. And the other thing my skepticism comes from is that in high school I was in this church choir and we toured. Well, it was frustrating to sing the same songs over and over and still look enthusiastic, especially since we knew a lot of other songs as well. But we just stuck to the certain playlist, the certain songs of each tour. It was lame-o to be sooo freakin happy while singing those boring songs over and over...and gosh by gone-it, if I had to do that for the audience, then every one else should too. ! ;) especially if they actually get paid for it. (IMOO)--in my obnoxious opinion. :P On another note: I don't think there's anything wrong with tweaking songs to be pre-fab at all. I love Prodigy (as I'm listening to them right now). I love all that heavy, high energy, steady beat, pre-fab crap. It makes your mind glow. :) Oh, and I don't shout anything at concerts, except for the occasional "Yeah!" I'm pretty mellow that way. All I really do is clap, or maybe woof a little bit like Arsenio Hall's dog-pound. I guess if I took downers or something I'd be comatose. Gotta go work, now. lator gators. peace, love and vegetable rights...although I've been senselessly killing a large amount of vegetables lately, killing and eating. doesn't that make me a hypocrite? paul ***************************** * This is the funk bass * * your mom will appreciate * * * * --radio promo for * * WTKX 101.3FM in FL * ***************************** _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. I haven't posted in a while, so I figured I'd attempt to break this embarrassing, sophomoric little war. I saw Patty at Lilith Fair in Cincinnati on 8-11-99. She was FABULOUS (as expected) and the band sounded great. Perfect mix, for anyone wondering. Unfortunately, since she was the first artist on the second stage, she was only afforded 25 minutes or so. If I remember correctly, the setlist went as follows: Flaming Red (with the slow, bluesy intro -- sweet) Tony Carry Me Little God Four songs seem light, so I may have missed one. Regardless, it ended too soon, but Patty was gracious enough to come out to sigh autographs afterward. Also, I chatted a bit with Frank-the-bass-player about our list. He seemed to really enjoy reading our comments -- which makes the current situation (a-hem, GARY!!) -- all the more embarrassing. <<< insert flame here >>> BTW -- Mimi in Austin, he mentioned you by name and remembers the last conflict that took place. You must've made an impression! :-) Anyhoo -- other highlights of the day: - -- Amy from the Indigo Girls greeted Patty after her set. Seemed super nice. - -- Sarah Mclachlan flashed her breasted to the drummer from the Pretenders while he was playing. Chrissie Hynde collapsed to the stage laughing. Then she announced, "I saw them. And they're BEAUTIFUL!" All the music at the festival was wonderful. Too bad it's the last year for it. Please, everyone -- be nice! We're all here for the same reason, and we all have something in common -- a love of Patty Griffin's music. Take care, Amy ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Aug 1999 14:41:48 EDT From: ABershaw@aol.com Subject: MM: Patty on PBS!! Hi all, Haven't posted in a loooooong time, so I'm making this a good one! I happen to stumble across a major Patty G discovery today in my work. She is taping what I consider the best non-commercial music show in the industry: "Sessions At West 54th" in September. This excellent hourlong all music program airs nationwide on most PBS stations. Every guest I've seen on it gets at least half an hour. Its a TBA in September so I can't give you any more details & likely won't get any more, so any further research on this will have to be up to you. Probably will be a few months before it airs, but I'm sure this will be amazing! The best place to start looking for info on Patty is on Mike (the list owner's) webpage. It not only has tour dates and other info, but links to ANY site that is related to Patty Griffin. Guitar tabs archive, lyrics archive, A&M webpage etc.. The lyrics archive has lyrics to LOTS of Patty songs that you've probably never heard before. There is also a really good Patty bio portion there too... Here's the link to Mike's site.. Watch Her Fly - Homepage of the Patty Griffin mailing list If that doesn't work the url is http://www.quackquack.net/pattyg/ Have a great weekend, and welcome to the list!! Everytime I watch this show (which is every weekend...LOL) I think how great Patty would be on it. IMO, this is a better opportunity for her than Letterman or Conan. I can't think of how many artists I've begun listening to after seeing them on Sessions that I wouldn't have otherwise.
