They played it for a while, and were hoping to put it on a compilation CD ("Captured Live: On the Mountain"), but it didn't make it. Maybe it'll be on the next one...and maybe requesting it enough will help. :) Of course, I could be wrong. But I listen to KMTT a lot, and have never heard "We Are Water" played there... They played it for awhile after she opened for Shawn Colvin in the Paramount a couple years ago - I don't know where it was recorded, I just know they played it. ~m > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-mad-mission@smoe.org [mailto:owner-mad-mission@smoe.org]On > Behalf Of David Doody > Sent: Tuesday, August 24, 1999 9:42 AM > To: Mad Mission > Subject: Re: MM: KMTT website > > > FWIW, I don't think KMTT has a recording of "We Are Water" from their > "Mountain Music Lounge"...I bet what the first poster was > referring to was > Patty's performance of "Wiggly Fingers" which was awesome! > They played it > for a while, and were hoping to put it on a compilation CD ("Captured > Live: On the Mountain"), but it didn't make it. I'm new to the list, but I have a question that I've been wondering about for a year now. I saw Patty perform in Baltimore at a club called Fletchers a year ago. Towards the end of the concert people started heckling with requests for songs. I jumped on the wagon and heckled for One Big Love. Now I'm proud to be a heckler and usually never do, but everyone else was doing it. However, when I asked for One Big Love, everyone, including Patty looked at me like I was nuts. I felt like an idiot. I don't care why Patty wrote the song, I like it, and it's on her album therefore I'm not an idiot for requesting it. Anyone have any thoughts? Just sit and listen to whatever she decides to play. It's all great. That's what I'm trying to figure out. I'm thinking it might have something to do with 1997 copyright One Big Love/Chrome Dog Music. See credits last page on Flaming Red jewel cover. Mabe she doesn't have the rights to perform the song. I was hoping someone might know, but instead I got a response from some asshole asking how she can get off the distribution list. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Aug 1999 18:24:18 EDT From: NuAgeThnkr@aol.com Subject: MM: Patty song... Hey, everybody... I read today that Western Wall: the Tucson Sessions, the new album by Linda Rondstat and Emmylou Harris has them covering a Patty song... I looked up the album on amazon.com... it's a cover of Patty's "Falling Down"... and it's mentioned as a highlight in a couple of reviews I've read... - --Keith ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Aug 1999 08:35:47 +1000 From: "Tara Magdalinski" Subject: MM: Party of Five Hi, I know we in Oz are are little behind the rest of you in terms of TV but I was so excited last night when they played Patty on Party of Five. They played Peter Pan as the closing song a few weeks ago, but tonight they played Change on the radio in Julia's room - an appropriate song as the character is currently in a violent relationship. Just had to share my excitement!!! Tina, Well, I can tell you that Patty doesn't need to have the rights to play any song live (as far as I know). There are many cover bands that play whatever song they please. What I can tell you about the matter is this... I've heard Patty play OBL live a little over a year ago. I know she's played it at other shows more recently too. In my opinion, OBL may be the weakest song of any of her songs when performed live. It was still good, just not as strong as the others in a live performance. This could have been the particular night that I heard it too, I don't know. I don't know why you got a "dirty look" from audience members when you requested the song, other than the fact that maybe they had heard that song before, or would have rather heard something else. I don't think Patty would have given you a nasty or disgusted look just because you requested that particular song. I think she just gets a little flustered when people start yelling lots of requests at her. I know she has taken requests before, but normally she makes up her set list ahead of time, and pretty much sticks to that. Looking at things from her point of view. She goes up on stage and performs her own songs for 80-90 minutes EVERY NIGHT when she's on tour. Consider the fact that she's currently been playing the songs on FR live since at least February of 98 solo, and since July of '98 with the band, and it would only be understandable that some songs would get to be monotonous after awhile. Patty's live show is so much about expression, and she would not be able to perform a song to it's utmost potential if she was not in the mood to play that particular song on that particular night. Maybe she just was not in the mood for that song that night?? I don't know, this is all speculation b/c I do not KNOW Patty, although I have seen her live so many times that I almost feel like I do. I can only speculate about how I would feel if I was a musician in her position. Anyway, I hope this helped you some.. :-) Take care, Dave ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V3 #246 *********************************
