Any info would be greatly appreciated. *swoon* Rufus Wainwright is a very talented artist. He's got great genes (son of folk greats Kate McGarrigle and Loudon Wainwright III) and his musical influences are diverse. That shows in his CD, which is sort of a mix of melodramatic pop love songs, sorta Gerswin-esque, talk of opera divas, etc. He mostly plays piano, but occasionally plays guitar, I believe. I happen to love his voice, though I suppose it's not for everyone. In concert, he's refreshingly out, talking about cute boys, etc. :) He's gotten some great critical acclaim, and I'm not sure how much that's translated to record sales. I know he's got a video, but I never watch MTV so I don't know how much airplay it gets. Anyway, there are several lists (I think) at onelist.com that discuss Rufus. I belong to one, and I think every post I've seen so far has been from a teenage girl. I think those are his two biggest fan bases...gay men and teenage girls. Bottom line: you should definitely check out his debut CD. :) Dave ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 May 1999 15:08:01 PDT From: "r h" Subject: Re: MM: NPC: Has anyone heard of...... >Rufus Wainwright??? That is all. =] Greg ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 May 1999 19:49:03 -0400 (EDT) From: Father Virgil Subject: Re: MM: NPC: Has anyone heard of...... He can go take off. however, I've heard of Loudin Wainright III, and he's funny. I never hear of him till my college radio station got his CD. Upon reviewing it to see what we should play over the air, we unanimously decided on the song, "I wish I was a lesbian." (if for nothing else other than him going "...like how to use your tongue...blluulbluubluubluubluuublluuu." That just cracked us all up max overload.) Go Patty Griffin! can't wait to see ya on Letterman. Hmmm, guess I'll have to watch TV for that. Crap. Although I don't mind watching SouthPark. Now THAT'S quality television. ;) Okay, no real PG content. But all this talk about Rufus Wainright I just had to say something like "take off, Rufus!" (especially since he's Canadian.
