The in-store apperance is Friday (big oops!) not Saturday and it's at noon in the Farmington Hills Harmony House. She is schedulued to preform and to do signing. I've told the whole event will probably last only an hour so get there early :) Jen On Mon, 10 May 1999, Jennifer Lynn Caputo wrote: > Hey all, I just got word from a friend that works at Harmony House that > Patty will be doing an in-store apperance at the Harmony House in > Farmington Hills, MI this Saturday. AOL changed the number of letters you can have in a screen name! Well, at least for me (humble AOL volunteer). According to my brother, he can't make big names yet, but I'm not sure if that applies to everyone or just him ;). Anyway, if it's not available for the general public yet it will be soon- you can make screen names with up to 16 letters, numbers, and spaces. I checked, and many Patty songs are still available ;). Unfortunately, Cornflake Girl was taken. Oh well... So anyway, my old address will still be working, but I'm going to use this one for correspondence with the list so nobody is blocked out by mail controls, ok? Ok :) Rachel:D ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 May 1999 17:55:14 -0700 From: diamondmask@juno.com Subject: MM: Patti on Conan I was thrilled that she was doing "Blue Sky". However.... The freakin' guitar was TOO DAMN LOUD!!!! You couldn't hear HER very well. I know she likes to rock, and I know the guitarist has spent a lot of time honing his art. But damn it! How about some balance? It's about PATTI, not crunch chords! Loud doesn't make it good. While FR is a great album, she's still best by herself. john in sumner wa ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Not to harp on this, but boy is that the truth. I had taped the performance and when I saw it, all I could think was "Why does this keep happening?" One of the main reasons (I'm guessing) we all love Patty so much is her amazing voice, and if the band keeps drowning her out, no one else is going to realize how amazing it is. It's also safe to say that another reason people love her is her songwriting ability, and that's getting lost when you're struggling to hear what she's singing. It's so frustrating for me because I so want Patty to succeed and I honestly believe her voice and songwriting ability are what's going to make that happen (along with the emotion she puts into her songs), and a break like Conan is pretty damn big. I only hope (and pray) that they get this resolved by Letterman. Or maybe she should make a music video, because I don't think I've seen any of those where the singer's voice is drowned out, especially a singer where you actually want to hear their voice (as opposed to MTV's number one lame video from this past weekend, Don Johnson's "Heartbeat," where you could hear his voice loud and annoyingly clear). Patty did also look nervous, but I would've been surprised if she wasn't. She realized how big of a deal that was, I'm sure, so it was only natural. It was too bad Conan didn't actually talk with her while she was sitting next to him, but she'll have time to once she hits it big. Sending out the positive vibes that Patty blows them away next time... This is a group of incredibly skilled musicians with talent and discipline I don't hear in Patty's band or in the ear-splitting bunch of poseurs who opened for her at the Bayou, and whose name has mercifully escaped my memory. What is one to make of Patty's apparent admiration of and loyalty to these folks, whose appeal seems to escape so many of her fans? Dunno, do you? - ---------- >>The band is just not working as a unit and they >>totally overpower her vocals causing her to sing off-pitch. > > > Not to harp on this, but boy is that the truth. So here's my question - how did Patty get this band together - was it created for her by the record company, or are they part of her circle of friends/colleagues (I really have no idea how this comes about). It just seems to me that if she had this band imposed on her (I mean at least the members, not the concept of a band as such) then perhaps they don't feel they have as much invested in the "product" as Patty does herself. Like I said, I don't know much about the process - can anyone enlighten me?
