The third will be all new songs........ I just got an email saying the exact same thing about Alanis M. I wonder if this is a rumor. But I also heard that Alanis and Tori are touring together for five weeks over the summer. Hey all, The only thing about Amy's post that really offended me was what seemed to be the shallow assumption that people who dye their hair are phonies. I don't even dye my hair but it still made me mad. I've learned to not get all sensitive and bothered if someone says they don't like Tori for this reason or that reason. There are plenty of people in my circle of friends that have slammed Tori for one reason or another (usually it's the TIRED Kate Bush thing) and at first it used to really make me mad cause I took it as a personal attack on my taste. Tori is DEFINITELY an acquired taste (she's even said this herself) and many people really misunderstand her or are uncomfortable with anyone who challenges fundamentalist Christianity. And as far as Tori's theatrics go, give the girl a break. She's a Leo and it's in her nature (I can certainly sympathize as I am one myself ;)) Amy, you are certainly entitled to your opinion and I'm glad that we are not all one homogenous blob of musical influences. I was not attacking your opinion of Tori, I was questioning what very much sounded like your assumption that people who dye their hair are just a bunch of phonies. I am always intrigued, though, at specifically WHY people do not like Tori. It always gives me another perspective from which to listen to and watch her. -Cristina ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 01 May 1999 09:14:25 PDT From: "Nancy Micciulla" Subject: MM: hair dye i don't agree with what amy said in her post. . .but it's not even the dyed hair that bothers me most. what exactly does "phony theatre major type" mean? i'm a theatre major, and i'd kind of like to consider myself pretty real. nancy _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. First of all, I think the new album is great. The intricacies of the layering of all the instruments is amazing! But, it is definitely not a sound for everyone. I would encourage anyone who has the album or is interested, to listen to the CD with headphones on, you can hear more of what is going on. As for lyrical content, I think that a lot of times words in phrases are used to create an atmosphere for a song. Like an impressionist painter does not give a technically acurate view of a tree, they are painting to create an atmosphere around the tree, and giving you the idea that the tree is there without giving us a literal view of it. (Does this make sense?) This is how I hear Tori's lyrics. As far as the whole Lilith Fair thing, I can totally see why women like Ani diFranco and Tori Amos would not jump on the bandwagon. I have no strong opinions on Lilith Fair itself, (I certainly love a lot of the women that perform there), but I do think that we tend to see a problem in America like racism or sexism, and instead of dealing with the real issues, we create these elitist organizations which can cause more division. Please no one attack me here on this point. I am in no way saying that Lilith Fair is a bad thing, nor am I saying that there is no place in society for "special organizations" where women, or african-americans, etc. can have their own "space". I think Sarah McLachlan, just thought it would be fun to have a bunch of women touring together, I agree. But, I also can see the other side of it. As far as Tori's vocal talents, she has great control over her voice, and for the most part uses it properly. When she hits high notes, they are clear and on pitch, and very beautiful. In the lower ranges she has this gritty, passionate feel as does Patty, but with such a different quality. I think a death match between Tori and Patty would last 5 or 6 rounds, I would not try and guess who would win, it would be a great fight! (Maybe we could get the two of them interested in that? America loves that kind of stuff, would be big bucks for them!) have a good one, grace ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Hi there all, Well, I have to tell you about someone that you will absolutely LOVE if you enjoy Patty. I have been a fan of hers for 10 years and last night had the absolute pleasure of seeing her perform live at the Mercury Lounge in NYC. The singer in question is Eddi Reader who was at one time the lead singer for the Scottish group Fairground Attraction (anyone remember the song "Perfect"?)... well if you enjoyed that you'll love her solo stuff and even if you didn't give her a try now... you will be BLOWN AWAY! Last night's concert had her and Boo Hewerdine and Clive Gregson teamed up as a trio sharing duties on their respective songs, and it has to rate as one of the best acoustic music concerts that I have ever seen. Eddi has a really awesome quality of quiet fragility and raw power in her voice all at once, and on "Dolphins" (the lead track from her album "Mirmama") she just led everyone along the most incredible meditation-like musical journey, with the purest of voices. It has to be said that she is the most incredibly personable perfomer too, stopping after the show to chat to everyone there and signing autographs and just being plain friendly! So if you are keen to take a listen to her, she has 4 solo albums out: 1. Mirmama 2. Eddi Reader 3. Candyfloss & Medicine (with a killer version of "Town Without Pity" on it) 4. Angels & Electricity (Just released in the States, though I got my import copy a YEAR ago already, what's with these release dates?) Then there are the 2 Fairground Attraction albums: 1. The First Of A Million Kisses 2. Ay Fond Kiss Eddi does lead on all of these albums and has a voice you will not easily forget, and won't want to foget either. Look her up, you won't be disappointed!!!! Later all Charl PS for any fans that might be wondering where her name comes from.... she told us last night it is Sedinia (also her grandmother's name) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 May 1999 20:59:45 -0400 (EDT) From: AloanStar@webtv.net (=?ISO-8859-1?Q?Jean=F1e_Pugh?=) Subject: MM: Re: mad-mission-digest V3 #122 A question for everyone on the list. She heard that Patty had sang if somewhere and is interested in hearing it. Please email me personally or on the list. Thanks everyone for your time.
