Just some info about Jewelstock: (I'm sure there are other people here who are or were on the Jewel list, so if what I'm about to say is factually incorrect, please correct me... :) Jewelstock occurred end-of-July 1997 (I want to say July 17 & 18, or thereabouts...). I didn't make it to the show, but I believe Patty played the first night... hearing about her on the Jewel list was the first I had ever heard of her. Whether or not she'd be willing to do something like this on her own, I don't know... I do know she made quite an impression on the people that were on the Jewel list "way back when" after the whole Jewelstock thing, though, so I'm sure there are at least a few people around on here who might have actually been there... JewelStock was held in July of '96. I think it was the 17th and 18th. Jewel played 2 nights at the Bearsville Theatre. The first night was open to members of the Jewel list only, and the 2nd night was a fundraiser for the Theatre that had list members and people from the community alike. Patty opened for Jewel the first night (the second night Jewel had no opener). At the time Patty had this gorgeous boyfriend and all the girls were way jealous of her... but hey, she deserves it. Yes, I'm a "veteran" of the Jewel list, and yes, I was there. It was very cool, but the BEST part of it was meeting so many list members. Every year since list members have gotten together that weekend and camped at the site where most of us stayed those nights. That also happened to be the first time I met my fiancee, which is pretty funny because all I really remember about him is throwing rocks at him late at night to make him stop snoring. I have a feeling the idea of a Patty-stock will get shot down pretty soon by Mike, with stories of why it isn't logical and why we can't get Patty to do it. The fact is that JewelStock happened kind of on a stroke of luck- Jewel was recording at the theatre that summer and at the time she wasn't that big, so she was actually into the idea of meeting some fans and signing some autographs. It's not that I think Patty wouldn't do it- it's just that Jewel was more involved with the list than Patty is with us, and I think Patty's shyer and would get freaked out. But what about this- if we found a concert she was doing that a lot of us could get to, we could turn it into our own MM shindig. I know of some clubs ( like the Iron Horse in Northampton, MA ) that have let email "fan clubs" stick around after shows and have gatherings. I mean, if Patty can't come to us, we can always go to her, right ? And if it wasn't for Jewel and JewelStock, this list would never have been created, because Mike also runs the Jewel list and he was a co-coordinator of JewelStock. Patty was discovered and followed by a lot of Jewel fans, and that's how this list was started. You can hate Jewel as much as you want (I don't like her much lately either) but remember that without her you wouldn't be here :) Rachel :D PS- how pathetic is this ? I'm not giving blood today because I'll have a huge bruise on my arm and my engagement party is friday night and I have a short sleeved shirt to wear to it and I don't wanna look like a junkie. I'm definitely going to hell for this one... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Apr 1999 13:04:17 -0500 From: donna.c.sytsma@ac.com Subject: Re: MM: Re: Hey!!! I've got an idea : ) I agree. I would be more than willing to take my Bessie(87 Volvo) to her limits for a Pattystock. If we could all get one show that we planned on meeting at, one that is a kind of mutual nuetral area, we could all meet and....have a picnic or something. But, I must warn....if it is too far, I might have to call on some other mm-ers to help me push her the rest of the way. - -Katers ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 07 Apr 1999 14:27:10 -0400 From: "Michael C. I'm in Atlanta (with strong ties to Nashville) and I'm planning to go to at least one of the upcoming Nashville shows :~). If we did try to do a Mad Mission Pilgrimage, I would think a Saturday show with Patty headlining would be optimal.
