Mark C replies: I agree with you somewhat. It's not that I prefer Patty solo (sans band) it just that I think, well how can I say this without being offensive......I think her band just plain sucks (this includes the person running the sound board as well). There is no getting around it. Patty is such an amazing talent that she needs a supporting cast (band) of people with just as much talent or even more talent that her, if the band thing is going to work. I saw Patty 3 times as a solo act here in Nashville and I saw her once with the band. I thought all the musicians were rather mediocre with the exception of the bass player (he was the only band member who played as if he wasn't hung over, he was actually very good). I saw here perform at a place in Nashville called 3rd and Lindsley Bar and Grill and it was for a live Broadcast. I was totally unimpressed with the band and at the same time Patty blew me away. Despite the bad harmonies, missed ques and screwed up endings Patty own personal performance seemed unaffected. What's really interesting is that someone taped the performance from the radio for me and the tape only confirms what I heard live. On the tape Patty manages to always sing in key despite the fact that her band mates are screwing up all around her. At times it's almost embarassing to listen to. Patty can make any thing work as long as the musicians she plays with are of the same or higher caliber than her. Just my opinion and I'm sure that others will feel differently.
