And no, she's not talking about her sound, either. She's talking about the fact that while her hands may be small and insignifigant when you think of how many pairs of hands there are in the world, she can choose what to do with them and she can promote kindness, blah blah blah. Don't get me wrong- I was once one of the biggest Jewel fans ever. Of course, that was before she got famous. Her early songs (well over 200 of them) were great. I think all her scary fame has jaded her, and now she feels like she either has to preach to everyone or be incredibly sarcastic (which is funny because one of her favorite things to say is "cynicism isn't smarter, it's only safer"). I know she wrote Hands, but she didn't write the music by herself, and I'm really hoping I can blame that dopey song on someone else. Besides, she used to say she didn't necessarily believe in God, and this song seems to be all about God. Here are the lyrics to Hands.... If I could tell the world just one thing It would be that we're all OK And not to worry 'cause worry is wasteful And useless in times like these I won't be made useless I won't be idle with despair I will gather myself around my faith For light does the darkness most fear My hands are small, I know But they're not yours, they are my own But they're not yours, they are my own And I am never broken Poverty stole your golden shoes It didn't steal your laughter And heartache came to visit me But I knew it wasn't ever after We'll fight, not out of spite For someone must stand up for what's right For where there's a man that has no voice There ours shall go singing *** (talk about a grammatical nightmare!)*** My hands are small, I know But they're not yours, they are my own But they're not yours, they are my own And I am never broken I will get down on my knees, and I will pray I will get down on my knees, and I will pray I will get down on my knees, and I will pray My hands are small, I know But they're not yours, they are my own But they're not yours, they are my own And I am never broken My hands are small, I know But they're not yours, they are my own But they're not yours, they are my own And I am never broken We are never broken We are God's eyes God's hands God's mind We are God's eyes God's hands God's heart We are God's eyes God's hands God's eyes We are God's hands We are God's hands We are reflections of God - --Rachel :D ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Feb 1999 12:43:35 EST From: CornflkGl@aol.com Subject: MM: NPC: This is REALLY funny This is a multi-part message in MIME format. - --part0_918150216_boundary Content-ID: <0_918150216@inet_out.mail.aol.com.1> Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII On the Patty Lyrics Archive, I have a form set up so you can submit lyrics to Patty songs that I don't have up there. I'm really sorry if this has already been posted, but Patty is in the current Performing Songwriter magazine (Jan/Feb 99). Elvis Costello, the cutie that he is, is on the cover, although Patty has a small picture in the left hand corner. The article is a two-page interview, and it is very interesting if you want to learn about how Patty writes and produces her songs. There is also a full page picture of her, which is quite gorgeous! This magazine can be found at any large bookstore chain, I believe.. like Borders or Barnes & Noble. Smiles! Misty :) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Feb 1999 13:19:11 EST From: MistyBC@aol.com Subject: MM: Re: Dar in HempTimes The song which is printed in HempTimes is "Play the Greed", which can be found on a compilation that came out recently. I can't remember the name... sorry! I've searched all over for this magazine... So if anyone finds a copy with Dar on the cover, I'd be oh-so willing to send you money for it! :) The magazine, from what I gather, is not a pro-smoking weed magazine. It is a magazine devoted to the OTHER, MANY uses of hemp, such as clothes and rope and all that stuff. I would be crushed if Dar actually endorsed the use of drugs.... So, let's not start any rumors. :) Have a great day! Misty P.S. If any nice person actually decides to get a copy of HempTimes for me, puh-leeease email me at MistyBC@aol.com instead of to the list. This is to inform them that she will be the featured artist on "Sessions at West 54th" this Saturday night on PBS. You'll have to check your local listings to see what time and all that. They have a webpage that gives more info about this upcoming show. And to make this semi-Patty related: When I went to see Tori perform in Louisville, KY in October, there were flyers being passed out for Patty's upcoming performance in Louisville. I wasn't able to make that show. I'm sure it was outstanding...Also, the girl who hosted a whole bunch of us the night before the Tori concert is a HUGE Patty fan. I mean HUGE!!! She has a poster of Patty that has been autographed about 4 times. They're probably on a first name basis. Especially in light of the fact that the odds are surely against all but a few ever realizing a career in the music industry (no less realizing any commercial success). Jewel doesn't do for me what Patty does and I can't explain why. And I really don't care to figure it out, either. It's really not that important to me. But one thing I will say is that, no one is perfect. Patty can learn a few things from some of the artists that I see dis'd on one list or another. For one, she can learn a bit more about stage presence and communicating with her audience. Patty's a great communicator, but only when she's singing. Go to any Susan Werner show and you'll immediately realize how much more there is to communication then just singing your songs. But you see, that's OK cause, that's Patty and that's Susan. I don't expect one to be like the other. I could go on and on about this but I'll stop here before I offend any more than I may have already. Suffice it to say that I think the world has been blessed to some degree or another by Tori, Jewel, Patty, Dar, Susan, and all the other famous ladies in music because no one can deny that they have touched someones heart at one time or another. Not every musician can or will to speak to everyone but I thank god that there are enough of them out there that at least a few will speak to me ocassionally.
