I saw patty at singer/Song writer weekend this summer as well. I'm not quite grandmotherly but am probably a bit older than many of the MMs. At both the keswick and at Penns Landing I thought Patty said that the song Mary was about her grandmother, Mary, but that she was dedicating it to her sister Mary who is from the Phila. I agree, I concur, I like! This might sound stupid, but how about a red ghost for a mascot? *dodges CD jewelcases* My fav song - Every little bit. Cuz you know, sometimes there are those nights when I, as well, do "clearly recall every little bit." My fav quote (and to tell you the truth, I really can't BELIEVE I'm shortening "favorite" to "fav," but it's morning)... Anyway, favorite quote: "We were drinking like the Irish, but we were drinking scotch.." Pretty much cuz I love to drink, and I feel that Ms. Griffin hints that she's at the bar drinking by herself watching Casablanca to give her a reason for being there; and I would do that too. Besides, any mention of Ireland is always a plus. I once gave The Fugees a five star rating for Refugee Camp because the song "how many mic's" mentions Guinness Stout. I mean, Any band that has a song mentioning the best beer in the world deserves the five stars, right? The whole album was great, but it was the Guinness mention that pushed them over to my best rating. But I'm rambling again. Oh to marry an Irish woman *sigh*...or a Guinness. ;) Oh, and someone mentioned no performer comparing to Ms. Patty Griffin "past, present, or future." I think her voice is just sooooo incredible too. but I couldn't leave out Ms. Aretha Franklin, Mr. Randy Travis, Mr. Barry Mannilow (sp?), thr Righteous Brothers, or the Carpenters. Ms. Franklin just melts me with her singing, and Ms. Carpenter's voice is to die for...perfect in every way. Chills go down my spine anytime Mr. Travis hits those low low notes; and Mr. Manilow just has to be seen live to be fully appreciated. However, I think with Ms. Patty Griffin, a fairly new artist comparatively, being in the same company as any of the previous, it is fabulous. (IMHO) And those performers were jus toff the top of my head, anyway. But no one reads my posts anyway cuz they're always gibberish and too long. I wish I could take only 1K of space like everyone else. :) peace love and vegetable rights paul ***************************** * Only the very dull are * * brilliant at breakfast * * --Oscar Wilde * ***************************** ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Oct 1998 11:36:28 -0500 (EST) From: GKRG@grove.iup.edu Subject: MM: fav quote i have a heck of a lot of favorite patty quotes, and i think there's at least one in every song. . .but i'll just put a couple to spare the rest of you. :-) "it gets harder and harder lorraine to believe in magic when what came before you is so very tragic. . ." --sweet lorraine "if you had the real thing, how would you tell? liars can say it all just as well. . ." --christina "i wrote a note to tell you how you matter, when the rain came down, all the letters scattered, and washed away, drifted off to never, where you'll be safe from me now forever. . ." --peter pan this is pretty useless for me to do because i could write forever and ever. her writing absolutely amazes me. but my favorite song altogether has to be "time will do the talking" because it had real meaning to me when i first stumbled onto patty and her music. heck. they all have real meaning to me. . . nancy ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Oct 1998 09:36:52 -0800 (PST) From: Lisa Gallo Subject: MM: Favorite Quotes Okay, it's easy to tell how my life is going these days by looking at my favorite Patty lyrics... Hello Everyone, For those of you that may have known me before as Huricane74@aol.com (Dave), well I'm now back and this is my new e-mail address. UMCaner74@aol.com I had the great priveledge of seeing Patty 3 times in 10 days last week!! I will be writing about this as soon as I get more of a chance to write. For now I'll just say that every night was just extraordinary in it's own way. I got to meet Patty on the 2nd night. Although I probably could have on all 3 nights, however, I didn't want to seem like too much of a stalker or anything. Well..until next time..Take Care everyone. Jessica, Management is being dealt with by Mike alone...so, that is all there is to that. We can only wait for the results. I'm sure he'll post his findings promptly as soon as he gets them. And as for shirts... I really like the "sign me up" part... Everything else is all right by me...but I really like that part. It seems that it would incite a lot of other concert goers to inquire aobut it. They say, "Sign you up for what, exactly?" and..."Oh...how can I get signed up?" So.... As for pictures...yes they cost more...but think of the great opportunity for visual presentation you have with Patty's beautiful flaming red hair on a variety of background colors...instanteye-cather!!!! It will get noticed....and she's so cute!!! Anyhow...I'm all about neutral colors or red or green...black is okay too as it would fit great as the background for all that crazy red hair. I think the opening photo of the Flaming Red webpage is a great photo of Patty to put on a shirt. jkl ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Oct 1998 18:00:26 EST From: Mercyme37@aol.com Subject: Re: MM: RE: Re: song meanings?? Hi everyone! I maybe mistaken, but I do beleive the song Mary was not written by Patty. See Flaming Red CD pamphlet, I no longer have the paper, but I remember seeing that it was written by someone else. She did say it reminded her of her grandmom. Could someone please check this and let me know? Thanks. Along with a note I wrote. It said I love you but I don't.... even no why." This is important to me, because someone I cared about very much hurt me just before he moved away. I wrote him a note and stuck it in a jacket of his that I returned just before he drove off. I also had bought him a chain for his going away present a day earlier. I started to sing the song once, stopped at that part in it, and I just started to cry and laugh at the same time in the irony of what it was saying and what I went through. Anyways, thought I would share. :-) John ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V2 #322 *********************************
