I'm compiling information on this page: http://members.tripod.com/~Deleria_Haze/matt.html If anyone would like to take a look. It's not about being gay, it's about loving your fellow human beings, and about stopping any and all deaths that result because of someone's predjudices. I urge you, gay or straight, to wear some sort of memorial in memory of Matt who died simply because he of who he loved. There are several graphics on the page that can be printed out. Thanks for listening, I realize that a lot of people on these lists are not from the USA, many more are not gay, many may not even agree with what I have just said, but I just wanted to send a message for those who do! Thank you, Lamia, and thank you to all the people who are going to read this and forward it on - as I have - to people they love, who are going to forward it on to people they love, who are going to forward it on to people they love. Thank you for being intelligent, compassionate, open-minded, wide-eyed human beings and for helping to restore some of my faith in society. Thank you for reminding me that I can't be complacent, that I need to speak up, speak out, act up, and act out - constructively, positively, legally, and morally. This post may have had nothing to do with music, but it has everything to do with life. You can't have one without the other. I'm getting off my soapbox now. Months and months on the Mad Mission list, and it took this message for me to finally post. Unrelated posts generally annoy me, but I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank-you to Lamia for this one. Haven't been able to think about much other than this tragedy for days, especially being a gay man in Denver, and it's nice to know that other people around the country are as shocked and apalled as I am. To all on the list who haven't signed the petition yet...PLEASE DO! It's an important moral issue for everyone, gay or straight, and your voice does count. This is America, after all. Thanks again, Lamia. Peace be with you. It is a shameful reflection of America being the "Land of the Free" that this kind of hate is still so prevalent. A young and vibrant person dead because of who and how he loved and lived, showing that there is no tolerance for anyone different from the perceived "norm"... this is also shown by the attitude of the far right wing advertising campaign stating that gays can be "healed", implying that it is wrong to be gay and engendering more intolerance. Straight people with a heart will know that this is wrong and I urge you to join your voices with us who are gay and condemn this kind of hatefulness. Thanks for reading this far if you have... I sat with Dana M. and Kevin P. (both MMers) and had a generally great time :) The opening band was ok.... well, truthfully, I left when they started to go move my car, so I didn't hear much of them. Patty & the band came out with this kick ass rendition of Carry Me that turned into Wiggly Fingers. It was the best I've ever heard it ! She did a couple of Replacements covers, and a great new song that was called Little God. It was this wonderful, middle eastern sound to it. She ended up doing 2 encores, finally ending with Stolen Car (a Bruce Springsteen cover). The audience was incredibly appreciative, and the place was jam-packed. You could see Patty was shocked by all the applause she received :). Patty also announced that the official name of the band is "Patty and the Executives". Apparently it was some sort of inside joke, which I totally didn't get, but that's ok. When I went out during the opening act, I saw Patty getting off her tour bus. Lemme tell you, it's this HUGE honking teal/green/metallic bus. Really nice :). I didn't talk to her- just exchanged smiles. She left the show and went back on the bus, so I'm not sure if she ever signed autographs or not. It was a wonderful concert. I want to let everyone know not to be apprehensive about hearing her with the band- the kinks have been ironed out and they're WONDERFUL :). Ok, and Kevin... thanks again for dinner ! :D Rachel :D ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Oct 1998 23:48:04 EDT From: Mudhoney49@aol.com Subject: MM: Hi (new to list) I just stumbled across this list a few days ago and immediately joined, and I just wanted to introduce myself, I guess. My name's Hayley, I'm 16. I live in Kansas. It's wonderful here, really. I just discovered Patty recently, I received a copy of Flaming Red as a birthday gift from a friend of mine who loves Patty, and saw her in Baltimore just after Living With Ghosts was released. I loved Flaming Red, so she taped me Living With Ghosts, and I instantly fell in love with that album-I bought it on cd. Everything about it is gorgeous to me-the liner notes, the lyrics, Patty's voice, everything. It's all I can listen to lately. Especially "Moses" and "Time Will Do the Talking". Anyhow, I sound like an idiot, just wanted to introduce myself. Hayley :o) ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V2 #302 *********************************
