Alright! this gives me the perfect excuse to tell you all that i updated the
site! (some may  call it a plug:P) hehe...but anyway, i added tabs for one big
love and wiggley fingers... i've also added the option of html or text format

My, it's quiet today.  I shouldn't be doing this, I have a ton of work,
but...does anyone else think the person Patty's singing to on "Goodby"
committed suicide?  2 lines make me think so:  "And if the pain ends
when you die" and "You can't make somebody see, all their beauty from
within, sometimes they just look away."

That would be 2 suicide songs on 1 album.  Is that a record?

autobiographical, I could guess she is writing about her former husband,
but it could be any one from her past. I love this song. When I first
heard it at Somerville last May before the album came out it was just
beautiful. It is like a different song with the band, but still
beautiful. I put it on a mix tape of female singer-songwriters I made
last week to share with friends at work along with Christina and Mary-
my 3 faves on the new album. Dar Williams, Catie Curtis, Cheryl Wheeler,
Christine Lavin, Eileen McGann, Kate McDonnell, Joni Mitchell and Judy
Collins. Everyone I know is oblivious- I try to open their ears.

     Isn't it strange how lyrics/music touch people in such
     vastly different ways?  I've relistened to several of
     Patty's songs with the interpretations I've seen here
     on the Mishers mailing list, and have been able to hear
     the songs with a whole new perspective.  And you know
     what?  They all make sense.

Well, maybe- I have been thinking about it in that light as I make
dinner-" when the news came about you "and "better way to say good bye"
and "does the pain end when you die?" I could see it that way, but
prefer not to. People hurt each other the way they break up- that is how
I see that- is she going to feel pain about it for the rest of her life?
Will she ever feel better? You bond with someone enough to marry, or
spend years with them and then you cut them out of your life with
divorce or a breakup and replacement person. Could we have used some
kinder words instead? Some better way. What was the news? It could have
been the news of his suicide, or the news that he was with someone else
or gone. etc. I never thought of it as suicide until you brought it up

I just called the Iron Horse and it is open admission altho you can buy
tickets ahead  by calling 1-800-THE- TICK. Tickets are $12.50 with a
$2.50 service charge and they hold them there for you. 7 PM show. I am
going to go this time- anyone want to meet me there? Northampton is a
college town- a nice place to go anyway- even tho it is a week night, I
can't let it pass. Hope to go to the Paradise in Boston the next day

okay, i feel silly.  i've been on this list for about a week or two, and i just
couldn't figure out how to get my mail to everyone on the list.  duh.  so
anyway. . . i just wanted to say hi to all of you.  my name is nancy, i'm 19, a
sophomore in college.  Indiana University of PA in case anyone was wondering.
i've been a fan of patty griffin for about 3 years.  i saw her live with jann
arden and billy mann and i was completely blown away.  i've only been able to
see her once more at the lilith fair last year.  so if any of you know anything
about her doing a show anywhere in PA, let me know.  please.  i guess that's
all for now. i'm just glad i figured out how to do this.  oh--in response to
that discussion about "Goodbye", i thought it was about someone who died.  not
necessarily a suicide, but then again, sometimes i don't think about it all
that much.  hmmm. . . thanks for making me think, guys.  have yourselves a
lovely day!

If you like Patty, you probably would like Cheryl also- acoustic folk-
this concert is Thursday in Newtown, CT- it will be an intimate venue
and undoubtedly wonderful. I have seen her twice this summer and am
going to this one also. Anyone in CT, NY or MA that can make it- find me

All this info on shows around the country is killing me!! I can't be in 
all these places!! Sometimes Los Angeles is the last place I want to 
be........ Well, if you have the chance to go wherever you are, enjoy. A 
live experience is almost spiritual, better than any recording can 
supply.
