It is, in fact, my criteria for a well crafted song: "Does this song work if I imagine it on just an acoustic?" This said, are not however, the vast majority of our 'favorite' songs, by solo artists, accompanied by a band? Favotite songs by : Bob Dylan Joni Mitchell Joan Baez Ricki Lee Jones Tom Waits James Taylor Sarah McLaughlin Patty Griffin (give her time) any artist you choose to consider? etc. etc. (there must be hundreds) - -All signed as solo artists, then, accompanied by a band for recording and live thereafter. - - Bob Dylan recorded with a band and went from Greenwich Village to around the world. - -Joni Mitchell without the L.A. Express? - -James Taylor without Russ Kunkle? Just a thought.... Patty's a bang-up acoustic performer and she's proven she can perform with a band......so be it she has to become a bit more "radio-friendly" to make it on a major label. I sure don't mind hearing Patty's fabulous vocals softly wafting through the local market. Besides....she's an artist....give her room to grow. ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: MM: RE: Flaming Red review Author: Tim Blackburn at internet Date: 9/3/98 2:58 PM I totally agree!!! I think that her second album is better. Personally for me the songs mean a lot more to me and I think she sounds better with a band than without. Now don't get me wrong LWG wasn't good I just think that this one is better and can reach a lot more people. Also I've never have heard anyone that sounds even close to her. She has her own style and will continue to as long as people but her albums. So in other words those critics have no idea what their talking about.
