I wanted to let anyone interested and in the West Hollywood area, know that Kathleen Wilhoite will be performing at the Troubadour, Aug 26th around 8 pm...with Scott Thomas & Guster. If you aren't familiar with her music, I can only say that I wished she was coming to Boston. I would definitely be there. I don't know how much the tickets are, but the tel.# for the Troubadour is 310-276-6168. If anyone goes, please let me what you thought. Thanks, Jeanne ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Aug 1998 16:38:28 -0400 From: "Perlman, Judith" Subject: MM: Radio play Last night on Vin Scelsa's show "Idiot's Delight" on WNEW-FM in NYC, he played "Tony." It's a very eclectic show, and the "only free-form show on commercial radio," at least so he says. It's on Sunday nights, 8 till 2 am or later if he feels like it. He plays whatever he feels like, and he likes to segue, though it's not always clear what the connection is. The music he plays could be anything: Frank Sinatra, Angelique Kidjo, Broadway tunes, rock. Mostly it's rock, and music similar to that played by David Dye on "The World Cafe." I think its a point of pride for him not to play anything you might hear on commercial radio, and particularly not in the top 40. He recently "discovered" Shane McCall (sp?) who has a "hit" called "Rockabye." "Tony" was part of a set that started out with Michelle Lewis' (sp?) song "Homesick," about a teenage boy who's sick of home and can't wait to get out. There were several other songs about high school and gay teenagers. Somewhere in there was a song whose chorus went "welcome to your sad gay life." I know he has a website if anyone's interested; you can probably find it if you do a search for his name or "Idiot's Delight." By the way, as the person who asked if anyone else hated high school, I really enjoyed that set! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Aug 1998 20:26:43 -0700 From: C Israelson Subject: MM: In Case Anyone Noticed... I was unreachable by e-mail from Friday afternoon (8/7) thru Monday afternoon (8/10). Did I miss anything? Also, accept my humble apologies if I "ignored" anything sent in my direction. I just packed a Ryder truck with most of our worldly possessions for a move about 100 miles west of here (more specifically, from Riverside County, CA to the shadow of Universal Studios Hollywood), and we'll have to switch Internet providers after we get settled (or pay some serious long distance bills!). So, I may be silent again in the near future, but I promise to pop up again as soon as possible with my new e-address. Every time I move during the summer (it was 100 and unseasonably humid in Beaumont today), I swear I'll never do it again. Why don't I listen to myself? WHY??? Larry I ;) ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V2 #230 *********************************
