She's well loved in this area! Patty will be playing here next Sat at the Riverfest, anyone goin? :-) I'd sure like to meet some of you Michigan Patty Fans! Anyway, here's the article - ------ >>"Flaming Red" **** <---4 stars out of 5 It's almost impossible to believe this is the same Patty Griffin who released 1996's well received disc of demos, "Living with Ghosts." One listen to the scorching title track that opens this album sets the record straight, though. Griffin can rock with the best of them. And if her voice occasionally recalls Bonnie Raitt ("One Big Love") or Ricke Lee Jones ("Go Now"), her keen melodic sensibilities set her apart. Lyrically provocative, musically resilient cuts like the tragic tale "Tony," the upper-octave-soaring "Goodbye" and the layered, rythmically pulsating "Christina" showcase a major writer who's making the most of her chance to shine. Watch this one - it's got potential to really take off. - Kevin O'Hare, Newshouse News Service - ----- Cya! For that matter, I think the first album isa much better representation of the true sound of Patty at her live shows. The production on the CD is just tnot to my liking IMHO. How many live shows have you seen with Patty and the full band??? None ? I thought so. Why be so quick to judge? Listen to FR for a while. Catch a show and then let us know if you still feel the same way. This is not intended as a flame but just a request that you not be so quick to make such blanket statements. He has every right to like the acoustic versions of the songs on Flaming Red better, it's a matter of taste. Don't write off his opinion as "a blanket statement" just because you happen to disagree with them. At first pass, he likes the acoustic versions better. A very reasonable, and perfectly valid, feeling to have. He expressed it as an opinion, not a fact, so let's just let everybody have their opinions, okay? - ---------- Kevin Pease kbpease@boston.crosswinds.net (ICQ UIN: 3106063) http://www.wpi.edu/~kestrel "And as I watch the drops of rain weave their weary paths and die, I know that I am like the rain, there but for the grace of you go I..." --(Paul Simon)-- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 6 Jul 1998 20:55:11 EDT From: Yount2@aol.com Subject: Re: MM: Newton Boys song ?
