I'm a little late with my story, but would like to throw it in anyway... My boyfriend went to the Martin Sexton CD release and mentioned that Patty Griffin had opened and that I'd like her - the next month? or so she played at Umass Lowell, where I was working (she opened for some bizarre and unappealing lineup that culminated with Dog's Eye View - we didn't stay) She was sick, and it was in this loud auditorium with crappy sound and no seats, just inattentive students milling around....we pulled chairs into the back and settled in - I was MESMERIZED - we bought two copies of the cd that night....I have bought numerous copies since and given them to friends who are now recruiting other friends (one friend asked me to buy 30 copies of the cd - he couldn't get it where he was and all his friends wanted them - - imagine!) I've been to at least six shows - I move heaven and earth and coerce anyone imaginable to go with me ( I brought a friend and her boyfriend to the show in Haverhill, MA - he is a heavymetalmarilynmanson freak - when patty finished - he was crying) My favorites were the Haverhill show and the Little Red Barn show. I can't wait to see her with the band - I can't wait to hear more of the new album!! I've called the radio station almost every day to request OBL (not because I'm psycho, but because listener input counts!) and i get teary every time she gets to the second "wings of a little white dove"..... Bryan III" Subject: Re: Re: MM: is she listening? -Reply -Reply This is all very strange for me, this whole list....I'm just going to ask a question or two, write a little, wait for a response and then I'm gone. I went to college in Nashville and saw Patty Griffin play in a bar and was completely blown away by her writing, her voice, her guitar, and her eyes (which seemed to be staring at something a mile away). I fell in love with her record. About a month ago, I heard a song on triple A radio that I knew was Patty singing....I think it was called Regarding Mary, and it rocked. This song isn't on her new album (the song Mary is, but it is mellow). What soundtrack is this song on ?? I live in Pittsburgh now, and I just saw her play a show...after opening with Sweet Loraine and Poor Man, she brought the band out, and I was a little overwhelmed. However, the writing and vocals were awesome, and the players were damn good. I have a copy of her new record....I think that the song Tony and Goodbye are two of my favorite songs of all time. For those who haven't heard it and are skeptical, I love it and I was dissapointed intitially that it wasn't acoustic. Unlike the first album, there are a couple of songs that I'm not sure about, but the strength of the others far outweighs them. - -----Original Message----- From: Mooodeee@aol.com To: mad-mission@smoe.org Date: Thursday, June 18, 1998 3:11 PM Subject: Re: Re: MM: is she listening? -Reply -Reply ><Patty, radio interviews you've heard, comments at shows???? It grabbed me immediately and I bought the CD - thank God CD's don't wear out. I saw her at the Troubadour recently, and was blown away. Both the acoustic and band segments were awesome. I've also got tix for the House of Blues July 21. I've got my name on "Flaming Red" at a Borders and a Barnes and Noble for tomorrow. Unbelievably, each one has only one CD! And I couldn't persuade either one to sell it to me today - no surprise. They let me buy it early, so we blasted One Big Love down the street, just to let everybody know it was here! Sounds better loud anyway! Hope they have more on the shelf tomorrow. Good luck with it Patty!
