However, I didn't know that's what it was at first, and couldn't figure out who the singer was. The voice sounded vaguely familiar, but I couldn't place it. I thought "Is that Jill Sobule?" and then when she sang "One Big Love," I knew it was Patty. Somehow, she sounded more like a "girl" than like Patty. By that I mean, there are certain singers, like Jill Sobule and Lisa Loeb, who sound kind of "girlish" to me; I'm not a musician, so I don't know the technical term for this, if it's tone or pitch or what. I hope this is comprehensible. Anyway, maybe it was in contrast to the band's comparatively "loud" music behind her? Did anyone else have a similar reaction? Judy P.S. I liked the song. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Jun 1998 10:46:42 EDT From: CornflkGl@aol.com Subject: Re: Re[2]: MM: flaming red << << Elaine, well I tried stirring the possum, but the silence was overwhelming. >> >> <> scintillating graphic, isn't it ? :) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 02 Jun 1998 10:03:55 -0500 From: Mark Cicero Subject: MM: "One Big Love" -Reply Judith, The first time I heard that particular tune I thought it was a new Sheryl Crow song until I heard the chorus. I think what you're referring to as sounding "girlish" is a type of vocal phrasing where the words are almost spoken rather than sung and if I remember correctly it isn't till the chorus "One Big Love" that Patty actually begins to sing in a manner that we're used to hearing her. Just my 2 cents on the matter. Regards, Mark Cicero, Nashville, TN ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 Jun 1998 15:12:10 EDT From: RbSayre@aol.com Subject: MM: the lyrics archive page? D'oh! Man,I tell ya....Ever since I got the advance CD of Flaming Red, I've been telling folks One Big Love sounds a lot like Sheryl Crow singing a Donovan tune. (for ya youngin's here, Donovan was a singer in the late 60's early 70's with hits named Sunshine Superman, Hurdy Gurdy Man, Season Of The Witch among others) I think One Big Love has top 40 potential myself!
