You would well be advised to buy Gorkas "Land of the Bottom Line" and Wilcoxs "How Did You Find Me Here". I will stand by these two cds to the end. Ok, I'll keep throwing out names little by little, I hate it when everything is said at once and there's nothing left to say. The Flaming Red Page is in serious need of an update with regard to this info. Also, I heard Wiggely Fingers on the radio this morning on the way to work. WOW - IT ROCKS!!!!!! Alanis, Meridith, Lisa, Melissa, and especially Gwen - better move over cause Patty is going to blow them away! A few highlights, though: - - before the show (after the soundchecks), I had a chance to sit down with all 3 of the artists who would be performing (Patty, Ellis Paul, and Vance Gilbert - a dream line-up, if ever I saw one) as well as members of Patty's band (my gawd, they really do look like well-coifed Hollywood actors) and they were all fabulous. Coolest thing I learned- Patty's grandmother is from my hometown in Canada (which shocked the hell out of both of us). :) - - the show opened with Vance Gilbert, then Ellis Paul, then Patty. Patty performed both "Conversation with a Ghost" and "Last Call" with Ellis and both songs were, of course, wonderful. - - I didn't write down Patty's set list but she did a good mix of Living with Ghosts stuff and Flaming Red stuff (opened with Cain, though). The band, however, did not accompany her. Apparently, the school wanted her solo so, solo it was. The guitarist played on Let Him Fly, though. Highlight of that song- guitarist hit some weirdo note, Patty burst out laughing, and they had a hell of a time getting going again. Endearing, indeed. ;) - - interesting thing I also learned in talking with Patty- there is a chance someone else might be recording We Are Water. It's very much in the air but sounds interesting... - - final interesting incident of the night- Patty's entourage leaving one of the band members behind. I kid you not. They all climbed aboard the bus and took off for Cleveland. A few minutes later, who wanders into the room but one of the band members, panicked because they'd left him! Presumably, they thought he was asleep in his bunk but nope, he was still in the venue. A mad rush ensued while everyone searched for the road manager's pager number to stop the bus. Not amusing at the time but, well, pretty damn funny in hindsight. ;) Apart from these little things, it was your basic kick-ass show and I had a *fabulous* time. And that's my version of a concert review- like it or lump it. Kerry ;) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 08 May 1998 17:02:49 From: Kerry Bernard Subject: MM: Where is Hamilton College? Since a few people have asked- Hamilton College is in Clinton, NY (upstate). It's about a 4 hour drive from Boston. I don't know much about the school, to be honest, but my friend Gabe (who took me to the show last night) started the acoustic series there (when he was a student) and last night was their 5th anniversary. They've had some incredible shows over the years, including Patty a few times, Ellis Paul many times, Dar Williams, Moxy Fruvous, Patty Larkin, Greg Brown, Karen Savoca, and so many other names, I can't even remember them. The venue is this really cool, yet really odd, room- it's circular with a big domed ceiling, tables and chairs on the floor, 3 rows of chairs around the back, and one row of balcony-ish seating. If you live near the area, I'd definitely recommend seeing shows there, though- it's pretty intimate. Their 6th season will be kicked off in September with The Nields (and Kris Delmhorst opening). I don't have her on any list that show her performing in Cleveland. She's in Cincinatti May 10. I've got a few days off and I'd love to go see her. Let me know as soon as possible. According to Patty's manager, they're playing somewhere in Cleveland tomorrow night (they had today off but were spending it there). I have no idea where, though, sorry. If so, it would be fun to meet up....I'm so psyched.... That show has had a change of venue, and is a 'private party' / 'by invite only' show. It's been moved to a place called Bunkers on North Washington Ave. (I called them tonight and they verified it's a private show) Their number is 612-338-8188 Erin, I hope it was a private show before and you have tix and just didn't know about the venue change :-) Mike :-) ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V2 #122 *********************************
