This is certainly an interesting debate and one that I kind of felt would
happen when I heard the first reverberating notes of FR... Although I'm 
no purist, Mimi's post was right on the money.  I will almost guarantee 
that Patty will receive generous airplay from the right markets for this 
album but I don't think it will happen with her first single -- which, I 
believe, is "One Big Love."  Although I could see a nice video made 
for it, her most radio-friendly songs (for today's "pop" market) are
"Wiggly Fingers" and "Blue Sky."

Working for two fairly prominent industry heavies, I kind of see what 
clicks and what doesn't with music directors.  There's definitely a lot 
going on with FR but "overproduction" defines today's mainstream music.  
Bigger and brighter sounds with pop arrangements are what's catching 
on with the younger target audience -- who also make up the bulk of the
buying audience.  This is who musicians have to "sell" themselves to -- 
not purists.  Most 14-year-old girls probably don't know who Grace Slick 
even is much less refer to her in a musical discussion.

I'm not trying to alienate anyone who hasn't heard the new album yet
but how can anyone deny the sweet intentions of  "Goodbye" -- which 
is my personal favorite cut.  Working in promotions, I take most music as

it comes without using the vaults of rock history to compare and contrast
a song's intentions.  I like a good pop album once in a while.  And I
happen
to think FR is a solid one.

       Although I LOVE patty's acoustic sound,I was looking forward to having
an album with a back up band.I have seen MANY bands successfully go from go
from an acoustic  sound to a  full band  arrangement.The key is having a band
that understands the feel of the music....knowing when to hold back ,and
knowing what to add.Another important factor is having a production company
that allows the TALENTED ARTIST to have  FREEDOM . 
Upon hearing the song "Tony" on The World Cafe ,my opinion was like many
others ...disappointment! Not BECAUSE a full band was added ,but because the
band did not at all enhance the lyrics or the voice.When I heard "Tony" live,I
felt like it was a powerful song!When I heard it on the radio with the back up
music,I felt the music did not do a good job at setting the mood of the song.I
don't know how to explain it ,except to say ...with all that
music....something very big was missing from that song! Hopefully,"Tony" is
not a representation of the entire CD.

The four dates from that page, and the previously announced Hamilton
College show are:

5/07 Thu - Clinton NY - Hamilton College in upstate NY (at the Events Barn)
5/12 Tue - Minneapolis MN - The Fine Line Music Cafe 
5/14 Thu - New York NY - Mercury Lounge (according to A&M Records site)
5/15 Fri  -  New York NY - Mercury Lounge (according to Mercury Lounge site)
5/18 Mon - Los Angeles CA - The Troubadour *
5/20 Wed - Dallas TX - The Dark Room (inside the Green Room)*

* - show status is tentative according to A&M site
May 7th show also with Ellis Paul 

My money says the 5/15 date is correct for the Mercury Lounge, but someone
should call them to find out and then post about it.
