I'll be in San Fran from 4/23 until 4/26....If anyone can let me know of some fun places to see live music, I'd love it! I heard something about the opening of Lilith, but that's not until June....Something to tide me over? Drop me a line if you're inspired. Thanks! Right now we're in the process of scheduling and budgeting for the next school year. SO! I'm trying to find out how we could get Patty to play here next year! We've had great bands in the past (Dave Matthews two years ago, Mister T Experience this year, and many others) and I know many of the students here would love to see someone as talented as Patty. If anyone knows how to set this up with Patty (and how to find out details such as how much she'd like to receive and what not), PLEASE e-mail me back at jtropp1@swarthmore.edu. (Or if you think other members of this mailing group might like to do something similar, feel free to post to the whole group.) I'd really appreciate any info as soon as possible as the early we get the ball rolling, the more likely it is that this will all work out. Of course, anyone who could get themselves to Swarthmore for the concert would be welcome--as an institution founded on Quaker beliefs, most events are open to the public! wish me luck :) - --Josh *** Joshua 'schwa' Loring Colvin Tropp Swarthmore College 500 College Avenue Swarthmore, PA 19081 e-mail: jtropp1@swarthmore.edu phone (610) 690-3563 "...I had yet to see myself become part of a story. I had as yet no notion that life every now and then becomes literature--not for long, of course, but long enough to be what we best remember, and often enough so that what we eventually come to mean by life are those moments when life, instead of going sideways, backwards, forward, or nowhere at all, lines out straight, tense and inevitable, with a complication, climax, and, given some luck, a purgation, as if life had been made and not happened..." - --Norman Maclean, USFS 1919: The Ranger, the Cook, and a Hole in the Sky "...the word timshel--'Thou mayest'--that gives a choice. It might be the most important choice in the whole world. That says the way is open. That throws it right back on man. For if 'Thou mayest'--it is also true that 'Thou mayest not'...this is a ladder to climb the stars...you can never lose that. It cuts the feet from under weakness and cowardliness and laziness...And I feel that a man is a very important thing--maybe more important than a star. This is not theology. I have no bent toward gods. But I have a new love for that glittering instrument, the human soul. It is a lovely and unique thing in the universe. It is always attacked and never destroyed--because 'Thou mayest." - --John Steinbeck, East of Eden ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Apr 1998 18:35:01 EDT From: JoJoKay Subject: MM: Patty at Mercury Lounge? I just got my new Time Out New York magazine and it lists "Patti Griffin" (spelled wrong) for the Mercury Lounge in NYC on May 14th. Can anyone confirm or deny?!?!? But alas, even if it is THE Patty... I can't go that night. And what a great place to see her, too. ;( Jo ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V2 #104 *********************************
