I have tapes of the short sets she did at the Earth Day concert in Boston last year, the Lilith Fair stop in Scranton, PA (I taped both of those myself), and a longer set at the Telluride Folk Fest last June. The quality isn't excellent on any of them, but it's something. Email me if you want to trade...I will accept blanks and a SASE in exchange for any number of tapes. kirsten ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Feb 1998 10:22:57 EST From: ASIS143@aol.com Subject: MM: recording? hi again everybody:) so i'm hearing through the grapevine that patty doesnt like/allow recordings of her show? is this true? i wouldnt want to tape the show if i knew that she wouldnt want that..mike have you heard the word? i still plan on taping the shows on wednesday, unless i hear otherwise... ~kate my humble plug for my humble hompage: (please add to my counter! i had to put in a new one cause the other one broke:( its a bit depressing to see how little of an amount of people have been there!) here it is-------->! http://members.tripod.com/~Lifey/index.html and my newest addition: some pictures i took of tara maclean: http://members.tripod.com/~Lifey/tara.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Feb 1998 10:22:55 EST From: ASIS143@aol.com Subject: MM: forgiveness chords and such In a message dated 98-02-23 18:58:25 EST, you write: << I'm sure the listers as well as MYSELF would live to get the full tablature (or chords) to Forgiveness!!!! >> wow, i think this is the most i've ever posted to a list in a week! im such a lurker, this is fun! okay okay..people are screaming for the chords for forgiveness..i must warn you that this is a ROUGH version...the best i could do..hope you can figure it out:) FORGIVENESS standard tuning capo 2 or 3 (whatever your in the mood for! im leaving it open:) basic progression: hammer on and off an Am7 (002010) then Am, G, F (003211) C for the main part - kitting some of the bass strings and playing with the hammer-ons a bit then the chorus is something like: G, G, C, C, G, G, F, C... then back to the main chord progression.. wow, this was so hard to explain, i hope you all arent just staring at your screens saying "what tha.." i can try and help if you need it..enjoy! ~kate ps thanks to everyone who sent me there tabs! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Feb 1998 14:36:43 -0500 (EST) From: "Sean P. The song "If I only Had a Brain", from the "Wizard of Oz" in which he is accompanied by Jewel, started to play. Hearing Jewel, I was reminded of the Patty concert last Saturday night, because a number of the people I met at Unos that night were on the Jewel list, as well as the mad-mish list. What a long sentence! You're asking "Does she have a point"? Well, not really, but I just wanted to say how nice a time I had at the concert in Somerville last week and what a pleasure it was to meet other nice people who share a common interest with me. I hope there will be plenty more Patty opportunities to get together again. Also, I had never been to the Som. theater before for a concert. I liked it a lot - seemed like the perfect place for a folk concert. Small, so pretty much every seat was a good seat (although of course some were better than others), the theater had fairly decent acoustics - a very intimate setting. Ellis Paul was wonderful too. My words can't begin to describe how awesome Patty was. A friend of mine made the comment that if you havn't seen her, you better do it soon before she gets too big and famous to play small venues again! I fear this is true! But it was a truly joyous evening. Hi, Sorry to post this again, but I was thinking - would somebody who's on both the Jewel list and the mad-misher list post this to the Jewel list so the wonderful people there that I met will know I was thinking of them? Elaine ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Feb 1998 00:24:44 -0500 From: Mike Connell Subject: MM: The Patty gig in Syracuse 2/23, plus some minor news Well, first of all...some Patty news I heard Monday night... Unconfirmed: on Thursday May 7th, she'll be appearing with Ellis Paul and one other dude (whose name escapes me) at Hamilton College in Clinton NY. (Upstate Central NY....near Utica) I have no idea as to any other dates. After his set, I was talking a lot with Troy Campbell (Hi to sis Glennia from Troy! :) and he mentioned some songs that won't be on Patty's next CD, but I can only remember one of them for certain (by title)..."Crazy". He alluded to the fact that it is going to be on a soon to be released movie soundtrack, as will a couple of other Patty tunes (in other films). He also mentioned all the movies titles, but all I can remember was one, "Niagara, Niagara" (I don't know if THAT's the one with "Crazy"). I believe the other song he mentioned not being on the new CD was "Nobody's Crying", but I'm not at all certain and am probably wrong (so why did you mention it, Mike??)....he told me to "listen to ___ __ closely if she does it"...."it's powerful" etc. I'm sorry my memory s*cks on this particular stuff. (I must have a brain cramp at the moment....if you are reading this, shut up Harris....don't bother with the reply button ;) The last thing I said to Troy before Patty's set was "I'd like to put in a request for "Crazy"....yadda, yadda. yadda". He said she was beat (tired) but definitely going to do "Moses" (requested by Styleen, the club owner.....great/sad story on that later), and said to just "yell it out, you're close enough"....I was at the only real table in the joint (mostly standing room...some chairs, some stools, a couple of couches), front and slightly to the left .....maybe 4 feet from the stage. (Bill Goodliff was with me, some of the Jewel list members here know Bill, and with us was a new mad-mission@smoe recruit, Scott Strickland , who's the one that told me about the Hamilton College gig) . I don't know why Troy mentioned she was beat, unless maybe she doesn't do Crazy if she''s tired or maybe it takes more out of her....I haven't a clue....I only sing in the shower and that doesn't tire me out at all. (Then again, I don't have a work-out singing like Patty does :) By the way, Troy is cool. If you get a chance on this tour, corner him and talk with him a bit....he's really down to earth....very into Patty's career and is into *this* list (he plans to join) and is into the way Patty is followed on the net. (and in my opinion, it's still a quite small following) Which brings up another thing he said....he mentioned that one of the times he had spoken with Jewel last year (summer?? Lilith?), that she said she was very blessed to have her internet group (Jewel@smoe.org), that they were a very large part of the reason she is where she is now. (I personally think Jewel means that her list was behind her and supporting her through the tough times...keeping her from giving up or anything like that.....I don't see how 400-1500 people can make any other contribution towards success, unless I'm missing something) In either case, I hope we as a list too can make some differences for Patty :-) One last thing about Troy....I don't know if he's done this on any or all of his previous sets, but I thought the way he *started* his set was quite cool. The pre-show music was still playing when he came on stage and sat in one of the comfy chairs off to the left side of the stage (the stage was living room-ish) and he grabbed a guitar. *While* the pre-show music was still playing its' last few notes, he started playing some soft chords on his guitar (like he was tuning, but he wasn't) and the notes weren't the same as the ones on the music, but fit right in with them none-the-less....the millisecond the music ended he picked up his pace and launched right into his first song, like his song was an extention of the music that was playing.. I dunno, it just seemed quite cool to me. I liked his stuff...at times he reminded me slightly of Gene Pitney (only the old timers on this list will know who Gene is) and reminded me more so of another singer, whom I also can't remember whom it might be. (another d*mn brain cramp) I don't know if it was just me seeing it wrong, but Troy was right....Patty looked quite tired to me. But I'll tell ya, you wouldn't have known it by the way she sang for the next 1:30 or so :-) Small club...One of the main dudes there told me it holds 400 but I don't see it.....maybe 400 Tara Lipinski's .....the main listening area, separate room from the bar, is rather small.......half way through Patty's set I did a quick head count and figured MAYBE 100 people. (mostly standing) Patty's set: Cain Moses Sweet Lorraine Poor Man's House MMMBop You Change Mad Mission Flaming Red Stolen Car (a Bruce Springsteen tune "from about 18 years ago....way too long ago") At this point I put in my first request for "Crazy", no reaction, like she hadn't heard me Tony Every Little Bit (Better Way To Say) Goodbye Go Now encore: Forgiveness Not Alone At this point I put in my second request for Crazy, no reaction, like she hadn't heard me. Mary Patty leaves. Place goes bonkers as expected....it was Patty's first show ever in Syracuse and the place really loved it. Then the club owner, Styleen came out. You could see she was somewhat emotional...not close to tears or anything like that, but you could just see something was up. She mentioned how she first heard of Patty. It was two years ago, and Styleen's brother had just passed away. She and a good friend were driving down to North Carolina to spread her brothers' ashes, when her friend tossed in a tape and Patty's "Moses" was unveiled unto Styleen. She was blown away.....of course she bought Living With Ghosts and had seemingly worn that out, she said. She had "never dreamed she'd have Patty in her club". Recently a booking agent called her and mentioned he had a show she may or may not be interested in "it's an off-night...a Monday...someone yoiu had likely never heard of....some girl..." Styleen asked "who?" He said Patty Griffin and she absolutely freaked :-) Said she couldn't contain herself.......... Styleen then us asked if we could try to bring Patty out for one more song. We let loose and woke the dead. encore #2 : CRAZY !!!!! yes!! :-) I knew she had it in her. :-) After the show, Patty and Troy hung for a while and chatted, Patty stayed in one area and not too many folks bothered her...Troy was all over the place and having a blast talking to folks. Mike P.S. Of course, I was just kidding about "MMBop"....I just be in an odd mood tonight.....21" of new snow will do that to you (The SOBs predicted 8!!!) **** The Patty Griffin/Mad-Mission@smoe List Homepage is at: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup/pattyg/pattyg.htm The Jewel EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup DuckofPrey@aol.com WhyADuck55 on AOL Instant Messenger ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V2 #51 ********************************
