So I'm flipping through my San Francisco Bay Guardian today and see that Ellis Paul is playing in Berkeley on March 27th and I begin to have visions of Patty Griffin playing along with him. Am I having hallucinations or does anyone know if it's possible that she would come as well? If anyone has any information regarding that slightest of possibilities, please let me (and the group) know. Thanks, everyone Marc ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Feb 1998 14:14:04 EST From: MNMC3@aol.com Subject: Re: MM: Does Ellis Paul imply Patty???? As far as I've heard, both Ellis Paul and Patty Griffin with be playing separate sets, but ALSO play a set together. Sounds good to me! Also, to all you people going to the Somerville Theatre show: what is EDA? I'm sure others will too. An EDA is an Everyday Angel- a member of Jewel's mailing list. In the summer of '96, Jewel did a concert ( dubbed "JewelStock" ) for the members of the list. Patty Griffin was her opening act. Since then, many EDA's have been Patty fans. Mike Connell, who runs this list, was originally just a menber on the Jewel list. He ended up co-organizing JewelStock, then becoming the list moderator for the EDA's. He and Jeff Wasiliko ( the owner of smoe.org ) then made this list :). When this list was originally made, it was announced on the Jewel list. Hence, many people on this list are also EDAs and Jewel fans :). Since EDAs have a lot of gatherings ( sometimes before Jewel shows. sometimes to theme parks, sometimes for no reason at all ), a lot of us have become really close friends, and know each other in real life, too. this probably explains why if there's a gathering before a Patty show, people will mention EDAs and the fact that some of us aren't worried about how to know who eathoher are :). I hope this list can become as close, if not closer, as the EDAs are :) OK, I'm done. EDA stands for EveryDay Angel, it's an acronym used on the Jewel mailing list here on smoe.org Much like we (at times) call ourselves here on this list Mad-Mishers or whatever...EDA is a term to refer to fellow list members on that list. Calling each other "hey list members!" on the Jewel list was kind of lame.....then once about two years ago Jewel referred to the folks on that list as her "EveryDay Angels", a term from her song "I'm Sensitive" ("we are everyday angels, be careful with me, because I'm sensitive and I'd like to stay that way"). It caught on and many list members started using "Everyday Angels" or "angels" in posts to the list when referring to the group. Then, a few days after JewelStock Jewel's mother (in a post to the list) used the acronym EDAs instead of EveryDay Angels and it's stuck ever since. (oddly enough, Jewel's mother was the first to use that acronym on the list, even though "EveryDay Angels" or "angels" had been in use for months) By the way, to answer a question I saw on this list last month but was never answered ON this list.....back when we were doing intro's on *this* list, many folks mentioned they had first seen Patty Griffin at JewelStock. Someone posted "what is JewelStock?" JewelStock was (were?) two free private shows Jewel gave for members of the Jewel@smoe.org mailing list in Bearsville/Woodstock NY in July of 1996, while she was there recording. Dan Stark, a member of the Jewel list and now a member of this list, knew Patty and her manager and asked her if she'd like to open for Jewel at the show and she said yes :-) (list members were in charge of many of the arrangements, Dan was on the crew) Once Jewel's management gave the OK, it was all set. Patty opened the first night of JewelStock and pretty much mesmerized the crowd.....while her whole set blew me away, the finale of "Crazy" left me stunned :-) Then Jewel came out and finished me off. Mike :-) P.S. There was no opening act the second night. **** The Patty Griffin/Mad-Mission@smoe List Homepage is at: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup/pattyg/pattyg.htm The Jewel EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup DuckofPrey@aol.com - WhyADuck55 on AOL Instant Messenger ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 Feb 1998 17:45:40 EST From: LeShawnte@aol.com Subject: MM: Patty in Prov.2 Well I'm off to see Patty in Prov, RI in about an hour. It's probably a bit Northerly for most of you... but for me it's actually quite a ways south :) Anyway, I may be at the Portland gig but I'm not sure yet (it depends on a few things). I'll post again on Monday when I know for sure and maybe we can make plans to meet up. Dave ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V2 #41 ********************************
