Remember EDA Adventure Steph??? :-) That way we won't have to worry about looking for who's wearing what, etc. Just a suggestion. :-) Can't wait to see everyone there!!!! Woohoo less than 2 weeks!!! Tom :-) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Feb 1998 08:49:00 -0400 (EDT) From: kartalst@HUGSE1.HARVARD.EDU Subject: Re: MM: suggestion for those going to pizzeria uno's feb. 21 I don't think that the MM people wearing red flower or the EDA folks wearing EDA shirts is necessarily a good reason... ...basically, there are going to be people, even if just some, who do not cross-over between MM and EDA...and still some who are ITWers! So even tho itmay be a somewhat minor point, i would not want one person to feel weird because either they are not a MMer with a red flower or they are not an EDA with a shirt or anything... ..and Jewel shirts? naw...we're not going to a Jewel concert...we're going to a PATTY GRIFFIN CONCERT! WOOHOO! ...LUCKILY the building where the Pizzeria Uno's is housed does not get all that much traffic on the second floor...which is where the restaurant-part of Uno's is located (the bar is on the first floor). And since we are planning on meeting inside the building right at the Pizzeria Uno's door, well, how many people do you think would honestly be standing around waiting for more people until a good-sized group shows up and then we all take over the restaurant and eat and talk and laugh till our hearts' content (or until 7-7:15, whichever is sooner...) so i think as long as people just email me and confirm that they are coming so we know to look for them...because if people do not tell me they are coming (other than the people with whom I purchased my tickets), then i will not look for them. well, loves, time to get going...work calls... take care, y'all stephanie Stephanie Maria Kartalopoulos We should be very greatful to have a kartalst@hugse1.harvard.edu limited body...like mine or like The Greek Poet Chyck yours. I used the shirts as an EXAMPLE of what has been done in the past to identify the group. It doesn't matter whether we're EDA's, MM'ers, ITW's, or what. I realize that Uno's is a small place, but for someone who's never been there, and who doesn't know any of us, some sort of sign indicating who and where we are might be a good idea and save people from wandering around looking for us. I live in Saint John, NB (Canada) and Patty simply isn't known around here. You can't buy Living with Ghosts in any stores here, the radio stations (all very "Top 40-ish") don't know who she is, etc, etc (I heard of her through friends on the Dar Williams list, btw... who also isn't known here but that's another story). So anyway, today, I was walking through a local shopping complex when I heard "Let Him Fly" coming out of a sports bar/restaurant. Not thinking, I started to sing along in my head. Suddenly I realized, "Wait a second- that's Patty!" I backtracked, went into the place, and asked the woman working at the bar if that was a CD, radio station, or what. She said it was a satellite radio station from the US. Damn! I was hoping it was a local station but oh well. Patty is Patty and that's still pretty cool to me. :) As for the Somerville show, I *really* wish I were going. Believe it or not, I'm actually going to be in Boston and would LOVE to go but, unfortunately, Dar is playing the same night in Salem and all my friends are going to that. I don't have tickets for the Somerville show and would feel a bit out of place going by myself to sit in the nosebleed section so, Dar it is (unless someone has a really great extra ticket for Patty/Ellis they might want to sell me... *ahem*). I do think, however, that asking everyone to wear Jewel shirts (or EDA shirts) to the restaurant is a tad silly. As someone already pointed out, this is a Patty (and Ellis- he's so amazing!) show, not a Jewel show. I know there is some cross-over between the lists but, well, I think the red flower or something a little more universal would be better. Anyway, if anyone does have an extra ticket for the show that they need to unload, let me know. I could very well be persuaded to go (wouldn't take much arm-twisting). Are any of the Dar-listers who are also on this list going?? If so, email me, please! I'll keep this short. Basically, I have 2 questions: 1. Does anyone know anything about getting a work visa to come to the USA (I'm in Canada)? If so, can you please contact me (kerry@nbnet.nb.ca)? I'm going through the process right now and would appreciate *any* advice or tips that anyone has to offer. 2. Can anyone recommend a good place to look for roommates/apartments in Boston? What I'm trying to find is someone (in the Cambridge/Somerville/Arlington area) who already has a place and just needs a roommate (so I won't have to lug a lot of furniture down from Canada) but I'm open to other situations (rooms to rent?). That's all! Tnks for your attention... especially the poor souls among you who got this 3 times.
