Just wanted to say thanks! It is always a good way to start the morning hearing from other fans of Patty Griffin. Makes me smile! It's been my mission (a mad one) to get the word out about the tremendous talent of Patty. Just this Christmas - bought 3 copies of LWG and sent them to friends in New York City, Atlanta and London. I'm convinced once people hear her music, they will be converted. Yesterday on a cold winter night in Michigan, I went out for a walk and heard music coming from my neighbor's house. It was very loud even through the insulation and thermal panes, and what sweet music it was. It stopped me in my tracks. Poor Man's House. Crisp and clear. I stood outside and just listen to the tune in 20 degree weather. Nice to know there are Patty fans in the neighborhood. Dan I've been trying to get other stations in Detroit to play Patty besides The River..no such luck but I will keep trying... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 1998 11:44:20 -0500 From: Burkeman Subject: MM: taping Does anyone know what Patty's rules for taping her shows are? (i'm sure Mike or somebody does but just thought I would ask here ;) ) oh, for those of you wondering who I am, I joined the Jewel list more than a year ago, and asked someone who else to listen to besides Jewel, and they said Patty Griffin, enough said :) I'm looking forward to finally getting to see her live next month! - -tim 'burkeman' - ------------------------------------- Tim Burke tb340297@ohiou.edu "There's no telling I was so confused I try but I can't help you choose..." - ------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 1998 11:13:19 -0800 From: "Larry S. " Well, Mike, we "mad-missioners" are in your life now, so that assessment can be declared inoperative! I can really relate to that 16-year-old daughter of your co-worker; let's hope that her musical sensibilities can stay sated with recommendations from her guides and spirits. I love to share music with friends and find out in response that it really hits the spot! That has happened with several people with Patty's tape. I called a local Public Radio Show- Wild Woman Radio-{ They play female singer-songwriters mostly Sun. Eves 8P-11P and I have picked up several wonderful singers to listen to from them} I made a PG request and they hadn't heard of her. So I offered to send them a CD, but they said that I shouldn't have to do that, that her publicity people probably would send the station one if I contacted them. Does anyone here know how I could do that? Is e-mail possible? I can't even read the small print on the tape liner notes- it may be on there. Maybe we should all do that!-Especially before the new album comes out in May. I should get on it, but I put the project on the shelf with everything else that is going on in my life. (maybe we can talk her into a Living Room Tour gig that night....Tammy & Rob, you up for it? ;) >> Yeah, you wink, but we'd seriously do it in a heartbeat if Patty'd be willing!!!! And, gee, with Patty at the Fez the next day, it's just around the corner to the city (ok, so maybe not around the corner, but you know what I mean :-) We might have to move the dining room table this time - hehe - yes, folks, we finally have one :-P Anyway, Mike, in all seriousness - we'd be thrilled beyond belief to host a LR gig here with Patty!!! Talk her into it!! Please!!! :-) Tammy :-) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 1998 22:49:35 -0500 From: Mike Connell Subject: MM: Patty tour update, some new CD info, taping policy etc Hey folks, Some tidbits from Patty's manager, Mike Baker (he was talking fast and I was writing fast, so this is rambling/erratic a bit....... :-) The following dates have TWO shows scheduled that night: Fri 2/13 in Philadelphia at the Tin Angel Fri 2/20 in New York City at The Fez Wed 2/25 in Ann Arbor at The Ark There MAY be another show added in Louisville KY at the Twice-Told Coffeehouse on *Saturday* the 28th, if the ticket sales for the *Sunday* March 1st show continue to sell as briskly as they have thus far. Also, the rumors were not true....Patty will not be appearing at the Ann Arbor Folk Festival on 1/31. By the way, if you joined this list after I posted the tour dates last night, you can email me privately and I'll send you them, or you can go to my Patty Griffin web site (listed below in my sig file). Patty has finished recording early (was scheduled to wrap it up 1/27). Mike says things went VERY well and they are ecstatic with the results thus far. For those of you that have met/know him and planned on seeing him again, Mike won't be able to go out on this tour with Patty, as he'll be in Miami for the mixing sessions (? Is "sessions" right?) from the recordings. The head of the mixing sessions will be Tom Lord-Alge, who's mixed for such artists as The Wallflowers, Crash Test Dummies and Tracy Bonham. To put to rest one question about the content of the new CD, it will be mostly band/musician tracks. Quoting Mike, he said some of it may be "Helter Shelter" and "no way in hell will it be mostly acoustic". I was just joking when I mentioned a possible Living Room Tour "show" to fill the cancelled 2/19 date, but I got 6 replies from folks pretty much saying "go for it!"....one in particular from Tammy (CC'd to the list) was offering a place. I mentioned it to Mike and the two February dates brought up (Thursday the 19th and Sunday the 22nd) are not available. That Thursday Patty will be in NYC doing photo shoots for the new CD, and that Sunday is a possible 2nd day for photos, if needed. He did not close out that Sunday as a possibility, but did say that he is intrigued by the concept, "sounds like it would be a lot of fun..." and it "is something we would be very interesting in doing in the (near) future" Yeah, I know more than a few out there are scratching your heads thinking "Living Room Tour?? Huh??" Knowing there are at least 5 folks (from the Jewel list) subscribed to this list that hosted Living Room Tours (LRTs) shows last summer, and maybe 2 dozen more that attended many of them, I'll leave it to one of them to post about this exciting phenomenon that swept the Jewel list last August and promises to be bigger and better this summer :) Lastly, since more than a few queries were made about "Patty's taping policies", I brought this up with Mike too. In a nutshell, they are against open taping (from what I've heard few acts do openly allow it), but considering I know for a fact there are more than a few live Patty tapes out there, "stealth" recording is the way to go :-) Mike :-) **** The Jewel EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup The Patty Griffin/Mad-Mission@smoe List Homepage is at: http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup/pattyg/pattyg.htm Ducksoup@spectra.net DuckofPrey@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 1998 23:43:03 EST From: Graceydog Subject: MM: Patty in Phila! Let me just say hello to you all as this is my first post. I'm afraid it's going to make a few of you envious, but I can't help myself... Patty will be playing at the Tin Angel in Philadelphia on my birthday, and I don't think I could have a better birthday! I saw her at the Lillith Fair in Scranton, PA this summer, and she was wonderful. However, she was scheduled to play the side stage, but ended up playing on the huge main stage in front of the masses. It was disappointing because most of the people didn't know her and didn't give her music the time of day. Personally I think I would have enjoyed her performance had she been in the more intimate setting. The Tin Angel (I am told) is very small and the perfect setting for a performer like Patty. My question to those of you who have seen her perform in such settings is this... does she stick around after the shows and make herself accessible to the people? One other question... do you think Patty would think we're a bunch of psychos if she ever read this mailing list, given our enthusiasm over her and her music? Just a question... Thanks all!
