Mike Connell, the original Mr. High-tech with all the latest toys and fearless leader of the list doesn't have a fax-modem on his computer? tsk tsk. They used to play "Every Little Bit" for a while back in early '97, but then the station died and so did her chance at being played. Sad state of affairs in Hawaii now. So now I'm in the Bay Area, hoping and praying she actually comes out here. Last year, I almost flew out to Austin to see her. That's how much of a fan I've become. I first heard her in June of '96 in a Detroit CD store. They were playing her over the store speakers and I was awestruck by her emotional voice. I asked one of the people working there, "Who is this?" and she's like "I think that's Alanis Morisette." No, I said, that's DEFINITELY not Alanis. So I talked to the store manager, heard the name Patty Griffin for the first time, and had what was comparable to a religious experience later that evening when I played the CD fourtimes through at high volume. I still play that CD more than any of my others, and it's one of the few CDs I have where I truly enjoy every single song on it. It would rank as a major understatement to say I'm looking forward to her new CD and I'd love for whomever has the influence to do so to have her make her way west to San Francisco. Hope everyone has a great '98 and let's keep this mailing list going Marc Hertz ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Jan 1998 03:10:42 EST From: TMiles1270 Subject: MM: directions to somerville theatre These directions are off the top of my head... Steph, please correct mistakes if there are any: >From Rte. 90 downtown Boston: Get onto Rte. 93 north (left-hand lane)... follow out of downtown Boston... watch for Mystic Valley Parkway exit (Rte. 16 I believe)... get off at that exit and follow Mystic Valley Pkwy. until you see a Texaco gas station on your left (Boston Ave) and a UHaul sign. Turn left onto Boston Ave. Follow to Tufts University Campus and bear right onto College Ave. Follow College. Ave to Powderhouse Square traffic rotary. Follow rotary halfway around and follow green sign (white lettering) "To Davis Square". Upon entering Davis Sq., a Store 24 will be on your right. Make a right turn onto the street that runs in front of Store 24 (Store 24 will be on your right, the Somerville Theatre will be on your left). Parking... if you can't find a space on the street... follow past Somerville Theatre to next block and make a left into a public parking lot (there's also a parking sign there directing you into the lot). Hope to see you there... I'm sure Steph will be posting about meeting times/places, etc. I'll be coming up (with my traditional car jampacked full of EDA's) :-) from Pennsylvania and probably meeting Steph sometime that afternoon and then I guess going from there. I just felt the need to introduce myself. I can't lurk, it feels like I'm listening in on someone else's conversation & as much fun as voyeurism is... My name's Rick, I'm 24. Live in Miami (where no one ever tours). I found out about Patty when a close friend of mine gave me a mix tape with "every little bit", "not alone" and "time will do the talking" on it. I immediately loved the songs & went out the next day to buy "Living With Ghosts". It's such a beautiful, simple, raw album. The music of her voice and the voice of her guitar weave such wonderful tales. I think I recognized a few names from other mailing lists, which is nice. I'm very glad to have found this fantastic Haven of Patty-ness. I look forward to seeing ya'll in my mailbox. peace, rick *if the world is night, shine my life like a light* -emily saliers http://members.aol.com/rbsayre/rick.html *i laugh in the face of danger. then i hide till it goes away* -xander harris the tao of xander- http://members.aol.com/jakeryan12/brendon.html ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V2 #6 *******************************
