I've picked up some great shows on line, but it's hard to stay on line long enough to download a show, even with a high speed connection. With disconnects it often takes several tries to get a complete show downloaded, and it can sometimes be more time consuming than copying and shipping a disc. In addition, even with a high speed connection, during periods of heavy use, the download rate can be dreadfully slow. On the other hand, it does tend to eliminate extraction and burning errors. All in all, I'll probably stick with snail mail for my trades. Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. We've got the branches set (tons of you volunteered -- thanks so much!). And although I agree with the online trading (shn) suggestions that have been going around, since we've started the ball rolling with this, let's just do it the "old skool" way for now. So, if you would like a copy of the Gem Theatre show (details of show to follow this email), please send me your name, email address and location. (e.g. Sarah Stanley, toricrzy@hotmail.com, Detroit, MI) I will try to assign leaves to a branch NEAR a similar area. We'll see how well I do with that. :) I will keep the "request line" open until Sunday night (11/17). Once assigned, I will send an email out naming which leaves go with which branch. It will be the responsibility of the LEAVES to contact their branch. I will leave the details of how to send cd's/postage up to each branch. Remember, if you don't keep in contact with your branch, they aren't obligated to follow-up on you. And branches are expected to communicate back to the leaves just the same. Okay....so here are the details of the show! I just joined this list, thanks for having me. In the event that you care, here's my deal... A few years back, my wife and I spent a lazy Saturday morning watching a movie we had never heard of before, Niagara Niagara. Movie was okay, music was fantastic, so I bought the soundtrack. This was my first Patty Griffin exposure, Regarding Mary and You Are Not Alone. In fact, with the exception of Cowboy Junkies, all that music was new to me (anyone know if Katie Belle and the Belle Rangers still even exist??). Needless to say, her voice is like no other. I later bought Flaming Red and although I confess that I do skip the first track every time, the rest of the disk I have played roughly 400,000 times. And now I play 1,000 Kisses virtually every day, it's just an amazingly soothing collection of music. Anyway, the first time I actually saw her was on TV this past weekend on that Willie Nelson friends thing, and I realized I just had to see her live. Glad I found this web site because the "official" site is really outdated. Turns out she'll be at the Birchmere (Alexandria, VA) in January, and I'll absolutely be there. Typically, the Birchmere is a place where you can hang out after the show and the artists will come out and chat and sign a few things. Is this Patty's style? So, that's that. Sorry about the rambling note from the New Guy. Glad to see there is a group of people who so appreciate this woman, and I'm glad to have found you. Thanks. Be sure to hit up those "in the know" for some of the harder to get Patty stuff. Or if you are in the Boston area, I can be of service. Also, check out Jen's page, pattygriffin.net, it is the best and definitive source for all things Patty. Jen rules. Take care! _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: smart spam protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Nov 2002 15:40:00 EST From: TimSharp63@aol.com Subject: MM: Welcome Ed WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME and yes, Jen's page rules.........
