Just wanted to extend a warm thanks out to all the folks who put it together and took the time to send it out. You made my year. :) BTW sorry for my whining earlier this month, I was just having a bad day. :( And, after hearing my CD I've decided I'm getting to that SF show even if I have to thumb my way there. Have a good one all and Patty RULES! I am getting a bit frustrated finding other cover songs to play. I find myself playing mostly only Patty songs. My friends (musician friends) are telling me that I need to play other cover songs from other artists (that most people know) or of course make my own songs. While the people I play for LOVE the Patty songs, (they have never heard of her before and all have gone out and bought her CD's), I still feel that I may need to play other songs. Every time I play a song they say, "who was that and can I get a CD"? Of Course my answer is "Patty Griffin" So this is the question: those of you who play Patty songs, what other songs do you also play? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Sep 2002 06:04:10 -0700 (PDT) From: Ronni Heggen Subject: MM: Great Eight I don't see Patty in the Great Eight again so everyone get over to CMT and vote for her!!! I asked this question in my longish posting from the other day, but got no response. This leads me to think: 1) that no one read far enough to see the question, 2) no one knows if Emmylou is singing backup, 3) no one cares! I choose to think it is none of the above! So, please, does anyone know who is singing backup to Patty on Truth #2? I lined the programs up with my local station's listings on their website & it looks like Patty will be on next week, on the 28th. I'm still gonna try to check in this weekend, just in case. I don't want to miss her! Also someone wrote asking me to provide the Mountain Stage info to the list. I think if you use the link above & just check with your local station's listing, you'll be okay. Hope this helps! Hi everyone :-) Just got an email from Patty's management with a ton of news and a ton of new shows listed, including the UK!!!!! (I can hear the screams of glee across the Atlantic now). I gotta run to go scout a football game so do not have the time to re-type it all in my usual anal way of doing things, so I am just going to copy & paste the pertinent parts of the news below. We got stuck in Mary Black cover world for awhile, so I know the feeling. It's hard when you are an artist yourself but have an artist you relate to very closely... you almost feel like those songs are part of you! We do some Patty songs ("Making Pies" and "Rain") but here are some other covers we do on occasion as well: Shawn Colvin ("Round of Blues," "Diamond In the Rough, "Shotgun Down the Avalanche," "Climb On...,") Joan Osborne ("St. Theresa") Paula Cole ("Me") Sarah McLachlan ("Ice Cream") David Gray ("As I'm Leaving," "Shine") Crowded House ("Fall at your Feet") Mary-Chapin Carpenter ("Passionate Kisses," "John Doe No. 24") We don't do covers that often anymore because we have plenty of our own material (and more coming... our new CD -- "Love and the Search For..." - -- is due out in a couple of months! Shameless plug....), but if we get hit with a long gig we throw in the covers to round it out. Bottom line, do songs that you love... songs that move you. They are easier to make "your own" if you love them and they speak to you. Hope that helps! Peace, Sarah .......................
