Anyhow, as if we needed a reminder of how disgusting the music industry is, this piece, from yesterday's NYT magazine, should do it. I just have to comment that there were SO MANY people there who knew all the words to Patty's songs last night. :-) It was so delightful to be up front, in from of thousands & thousands of music fans who REALLY seemed to know Patty's music. I really don't think I've ever witnessed such a large crowd for a Patty "headlining" show. Amazing! I had no idea Patty was so popular in 'Da Burgh! It must be Don's influence. ;-) Anyway, one other thing.. I was one of those "moshers" right up front & snapping as many pictures as possible.. When Patty went into tomorrow night, all you could hear was ooohhhs & ahhhhs coming from everyone around. Like they could not believe what their ears were hearing. Patty truly was wonderful in every way last night. Here's one fan who was MORE THAN HAPPY to have made the over 200 mile trip for the free show last night. (then get up & work early this morning) :-) It's always risky going to these type of things, because a lot of times the crowds stink, the performers play a shortened set, or the venue is terrible. None of the above last night. A+++ all around. Yay Patty! According to today's NY Times: The festival included leading pop-folk figures like Arlo Guthrie, Bruce Cockburn, Shawn Colvin, Maura O'Connell and Dar Williams, along with relative newcomers like Josh Ritter, Louise Taylor, Lynn Miles and Kris Delmhorst. No one is an acoustic purist anymore; Jonatha Brooke's band pushed toward hard rock, while Richard Shindell tilted toward country. etc. ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V6 #294 *********************************
