oh boy do I love Lucinda Williams......she's always 1/3 of my musical
trinity.  Patty is also a constant third. my third third
changes.....right now it's Gillian Welch. Could be someone
else.....Wilco is there sometimes. Anyway, this is just a response to
someone on the list  mentioning Lucinda's name.

Also, there are a lot of good cds coming out in the next couple of
months.....I thought I'd pass some of the lesser known ones along in
case it came in handy for some of you guys:

Alison Moorer - Miss Fortune - end of July
Beth Orton - Daybreaker - end of July
Kelly Willis - Easy - end of August
Dixie Chicks - Home- end of August

Kim Richey and Maria McKee both promise new releases
soon...........we'll see. I'm really eager to see what Bill Bottrell did
with Richey. He really worked on Shelby Lynne's behalf. 
Anyone know what's up with the new fiona apple album....

I have lived in Berkeley for almost 3 years now and drive by the Greek 
Theater most every day- usually thinking of how Jackson Browne had the Happy 
Birthday Jackson concert there right after Sedona and I had wanted to be 
there a few years ago. Well, tonite I finally got inside but not for Jackson- 
it was the Indigo Girls and they were just as good! What an awesome show. I 
used to think they had just average voices but tonite they really surprised 
me- really in good voice. I only knew about 1/4 of the songs as I have not 
been keeping up with their last 3 albums. They played songs from their new 
release and they sounded really good, so I will have to get caught up. Amy 
wore pigtails- and red plaid pants with a kilt sort of skirt-  and  black 
halter top that showed a major tattoo on her chest. she was so cute- yeah 
Elaine! And I missed you there too! The Greek is pretty old- dates back maybe 
a hundred years  or more to early Berkeley days. It was pretty cool to see 
it.  The Indigo Girls audience stood for most of the concert and must have 
had jumping beans in their pants- they bebopped for the whole thing! The 
Girls seemed pretty happy to be there- great audience support. They didn't 
talk much- just quickly moved from one song to the next- full of energy and 
they played their hearts out.  The surprise for me was Vonda Shepard who 
opened. I never watch TV much- rarely have ever seen Ally McBeal, altho I 
know that Vonda does the music. I do have 1 tape of hers which has a couple 
of songs that I do like, but have never been that interested in her. Her 
style is not like the folk style that I am drawn to usually. I am not into 
that Whitney Houston sort of scale caterwalling. Reminds me of years ago when 
I was having my wisdom teeth out under nitrous and Whitney was on and I 
thought it was never going to end- double torture. Well, tonite I finally see 
why she has been so popular- I remember when people  were talking about her 
doing Ally McBeal, being caught up in her voice. She really does have an 
incredible voice- it so effortlessly flows out of her.  She has a good 
personality onstage and the audience loved her. She also has an Cd coming out 
soon and played some very  beautiful songs from it. For the encore, she did a 
duet with Emily - Don't You Break My Heart Slow- {something like that}- and 
Emily really knocked it out on her solo verse, Vonda style. I was  impressed 
with both of them, it was just beautiful.  Don't miss this show if it comes 
by you and both upcoming Cds sound like they are really good. I love coming 
across new singers that actually interest me- I get in such a rut when I do 
latch onto to someone- ie Jackson and Patty Griffin and Catie Curtis. At Kate 
Wolf I discovered the Waifs, Marley's Ghost, The Waybacks and Laurie Lewis, 
and now Vonda Shepard. So much music and so little time!

Also coming out in AUG.-

Rhett Miller (Lead singer for Old 97's) solo debut called "Instigator."
Third week in Aug., I think.  He played some songs from it at Sundance 
(after Patty!) and they were great.  If you like Old 97's check it out.
