I enjoy her music, her voice and her stage presence. It is a crazy world out there, stress, wackos, control freaks, and the such, going to concerts helps me get my head back on straight, recharges my batteries so to say. If someone went to a psychologist weekly, would you say that their counselor was their religious figure? I really don't think any of us who attend Patty concerts regularly think of her that way. She may be a goddess of music, but not some sick pathologist's hero in the way you alluded to. Let me tell you, not one of them worship Patty in a way that is weird or sick. Sounds to me that you are a bit jealous of the frequent Patty goers. Just remember that their priorities are different than yours. I bet you do something regularly that someone else might think frivolous ( nails done weekly, massage, starbuck habit...); it is all the same, different scenarios. I was trying to ignore your posting, but there was so much venom in it that I couldn't. Sorry if I sound harsh, I am not trying to. I just wanted to explain the priority thing. The closest Patty has been to me is Winnipeg ( opening for the Dixie Chicks-4 plus hours away) and Minneapolis ( in '98--until finally now- also 4 hours away). I've been to both and will go to the Aug. 13th Minneapolis show but I would be downright pissed off if she had rescheduled that date to a time when I just couldn't swing it. I was so worried about that. As it is, I bought the tickets, have to take at least parts of 2 days off of work, motel, 4 hours drive each way. I am more than willing to do that, as was LouAnn, but the date got changed to a time when she COULD NOT go. Any other show for us would involve airline tickets as well, or minimum 12 hours of driving (if the show was in Chicago-which it was-on a Wed.) and more time off of work. Patty doesn't get this way as often as she does to the East coast. If she came to Minneapolis 28 times, I'd do everything I could to see her 28 times but she just doesn't come around this way that often. Maybe it's the same for the rest of you but it seems like you get a little more access to her. Thanks, but no thanks. I do appreciate the generosity, though. I just think it would be better applied to a more important cause. If I needed a kidney, then OK. But for people to go to so much trouble and expense to send me to a concert? Maybe you could figure out what it would have cost and donate that amount to a truly worthy and important cause. More important than my entertainment, anyway. My response about hijacking and a foster home was supposed to be funny. This has gotten so out of proportion. My original point was that perhaps a few on this list have lost just a teensy bit of perspective when it comes to Patty, and I think the responses here have proven it. Karla wrote: > LouAnne, I take offense at you calling Patty a religious figure to those > of us who have seen Patty many times. I did not say that Patty was a religious figure to anyone who has seen her many times. That was Karla's assumption. I said that I believe that some of the people on this list have elevated her to that status (whether or not they have ever seen her live). If the shoe doesn't fit, don't worry about it. > Sounds to me that you are a bit jealous of the > frequent Patty goers. Of course I am! Duh! Please see Ronni's latest post for an explanation of the logistics of a person living in northern Minnesota seeing a show. A lot of the passion that is coming out in thses posts of mine (not "venom" as Karla put it) is frustration and, yes, anger, at Patty (OK, her management, whatever) for changing show dates. I think it is one thing to cancel a show because you are sick or have some unavoidable circumstance, but to cancel a show AFTER tickets have been sold just because something better came along (2 songs???) and to leave many, many loyal fans stuck with non-refundable Ticketmaster fees when they can't make the new date...I don't know about you, but my mother taught me better. Jerry, I really do appreciate your offer and the pay-it-forward idea. I think this is all I have to say on this topic.
