Same thing with Patty and Jewel. If you don't like the way Jewel interviews, then turn off the TV. But some people like her music, so be tolerant. I have only heard Jewel's first CD and like it. It is minimal, for the most part it is just Jewel and her guitar and her emotion. Hmm, not much different than LWG. I sure hope the fans on the Jewel site will be understanding when Patty is mentioned on their list. For us MMers, Patty is the best out there. For them, Jewel is. But this is music we are talking about. The choice is just personal preference, like ice cream. One policy we have on the list for that other artist some here say they barf about is that it's not nice to bash other artists. As a matter of fact it IS a policy not to do so. Why? Well, for one, it's not nice. Two, it is safe to say on most large or semi-large lists such as this that most musical artists out there likely have fans on this list. Bash that artist and someone here will take offense, as they like that artist. Each and every singer or group out there has fans whose booty they shake. Many of them are here on this list. Why can't we respect each others' right to like the music of the artists we choose and not cut that artist down? it's not a nice thing to do on many fronts. Got there not so early and after telling my wife I really wanted to meet this guy Don Henn in the car ride to the show, we find ourselves standing behind the Booted One waiting to get in. Even though we we're maybe 40th in line, Don, my wife and I were able to sit front row just a little bit off center. Don will hopefully have the more complete review posted shortly, but since it was my first show and I had a great time, I had to write something. Crowd was really into the concert and Patty seemed to repsond to it. Lot of chatter about how good it was to be home, living in Portland and how happy she was to see all the people out. A funny moment came when she did the into I've heard before about the Table Talk Pie Co at the beginning of Making Pies - she caught herself a little bit into her rap with a "but you guys know that." She got standing O's from the full house from her last set song and throughout the encores. Don can aswer to this better than I, but she truly seemed a little awed by the whole thing. Highlights for me included meeting Don (of course), Flaming Red, Ruby's Arms and Let Him Fly (crowd going crazy had a lot to do with it) and seeing her tiny dog getting walked by this huge assed roadie. Lowlights - None really, but I'll admit over time I find that I like Making Pies less than I thought I did. Other Silver Bell tracks both on the record and in concert seem much stronger to me. After seeing last nights show, I have no questions about making the 6 hour roundtrip tosee her in Atlanta on the 8th. m- - -- matt fotter http://www.fotter.com/ up 4 weeks 4 days 12 hours 59 minutes ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Apr 2002 10:14:52 -0400 From: TheGirlsHateHer@aol.com Subject: MM: RE: Stop That! You know, this list was created by fans from the Jewel list after Patty opened for Jewel at Jewelstock, so it's to be expected that there will be a lot of Jewel fans on this list, and that in some way, Patty and Jewel are connected. I'm sorry if you don't like Jewel, but you shouldn't expect people who do like her to stop talking about her. Might as well go ahead and quote the MM faq: "Q: Why do people on the list seem to talk about Jewel often? A: The Patty list is kind of the red-headed stepchild of the Jewel list. Patty opened for Jewel at a concert Jewel did in 1996 for her mailing list members. Many Jewel list-members and fans also became Patty fans, and eventually a new list was made just for Patty fans. Many members of the Patty list are also on the Jewel list." So in a way, without Jewel, this list may not even exist. I think people should feel free to mention her. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Apr 2002 10:15:43 EDT From: EveryLittleBit@aol.com Subject: Re: MM: Re: Stop that! Now, whether or not you like Jewel- who cares? I'm not particularly fond of her anymore.
