I want to go so bad...I just have to talk my friend into going with me. It's a three hour drive from my house and i'd rather not make the trip alone. anyway, does anyone know if patty stays afterwards to sign autographs or meet fans...anything like that? I'm a huge fan and this will unfortunately be my first and last chance to make it to one of her concerts. I know everyone there probably wants to meet her......how do people get backstage passes or their equivalent? I don't have a shot, do i? lol ok guys. take care, mike m. According to Patty and the band, tonight was the official first stop on the tour. The other shows that they have played thus far were considered a "preview/press" tour. That is why the shows/sets were so short. Anyway, Michael Fracasso opened the show, and he played a very good set despite all the troubles he had with his floor mic. Michael's set lasted for about 45 minutes. After his set, Patty and the band graced the stage, and the crowd went nuts. Doug Lancio seemed to enjoy the interaction that he was getting from the crowd. At one point in the show, he raised his guitar over his head, and the crowd went wild. As for Patty's performance, she had a very good night. She didn't really cut loose till her screw up in Be Careful. She had to stop the song, retune her guitar, and start the song again. She said that we need to have fun tonight, and it just helps to have your guitar in tune. She was very cute about the whole situation. After that moment, she seemed to really relax and cut loose. Her solo performances of "You Never Get What You Want" and "Poor Man's House" were great! The crowd sang along for several of the songs, and it was just a good night. There is so much to share about this show, but I really need to get some sleep. I will write more later. Ohh! By the way, ATO Records has merchandise at the shows now. There are two t-shirts and a tanktop as well as Patty's and Michael's CD's. The CD's are $13, and the shirts are $15 and $20 if I remember correctly. The shirts just have the album artwork or a variation of it. They said that they will be getting more merchandise put together as the tour progresses. Well, I am off to bed. Take care and have a good day tomorrow. - - Sanders P.S.- I will have picture from this show posted at the following url sometime tomorrow afternoon: http://www.dtpx.com/photography/pattygriffin.04162002/ Night night... P.P.S.- Michael Ramos, Patty's keyboardist, said that Patty and the band will be on the West Coast the last week of May and the first week of June. Mark your calendars! Plus, the cities who got "preview" tour dates will more than likely be getting another performance from Patty down the road. Just thought I would share that bit of info... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Apr 2002 08:55:36 -0400 From: "Tom Russell" Subject: MM: Favorite lyrics from Patty songs As a follow up to powerful sets of Patty lyrics, for me these are as good as it gets: "Forty years go by with someone laying in your bed, Forty years of things you say you wish you'd never said, How hard would it have been to say some kinder words instead?" You Are Not Alone was the first PG song I ever heard. It was on the soundtrack of a little-known movie titled Niagra Niagra. My girlfriend brought the CD home and (I recall it like it was yesterday) said hey listen to this song and what do you think it means? I heard two verses and it speared my heart. I wept and I don't weep. I was incredulous (and hooked). I find its theme so very common in Patty's music (but don't push my view much, as it seems fatalistic and just a bit gloomy). Lots of reminding "us" that this is a finite thing and we need to be kinder about it before we or those we love are gone. Anyway - thanks for the post. I remember the first time I heard her sing those words. Tears sprung up in my eyes and I thought the same thing as you, Tom. Taking it out of the individual situation of the song and applying to a grander scale of the world around us. I mean, really... how hard WOULD it have been to say some kinder words instead?
