Ten incredible songs: Rain. Chief. Stolen Car (Springsteen). Makin Pies. Be Careful. Long Road. Nobody's Cryin. Tomorrow Night. Mil Besos (Ema. Elena Valdelamar). Reprise. Produced by Patty & Doug Lancio. Clocks in just under 40 minutes. The folks who prefer their Patty ala Living With Ghosts will be ecstatic. The songs and production are intimate (the chills are abundant). Having not seen Patty for a long time, many of these songs are new to me, while some I recognize via posts on the mad-mission list. Rain is absolutely beautiful as is her cover of Stolen Car (it is desolate and lovely). Many of you have already heard Chief through the ATO sampler. I think it's a terrific song actually. Like many of her best songs (not to mention great literature), it immediately creates a world inside your head fully inhabited by her characters. Makin Pies, as produced here, sounds like something Kevin Kinney could have recorded on his first (sadly underrated) solo record. Be Careful simply killed me on first listen. Long Road features some amazing harmonies (can't tell for sure if it's someone else or Patty). This much I know. On April 9th I will be buying copies for friends all over the place. People will need to hear this record. I can't wait for those long summer evenings with nightnoise and nightbugs and this CD providing the perfect soundtrack to it all. It's going to be nice. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Jan 2002 13:49:00 -0800 From: timothy johnstone Subject: Re: MM: Re: R. Thompson, R. Adams, B. Orton & J. Leonard is very much alive. He came down from his mountaintop retreat with the monks to record one of his best albums ever - Ten New Songs. Long Road, yes! That song is just to good to be true. Be Careful, yes! She played this at the Landmine Free World Concert. Absolute killer. I for one think that the LWG CD was the best acoustic recording, I have ever heard, by anyone If, as you say, this CD follows that road, I'm in heaven already. I'll be giving them away as well when it finally comes out! I don't know the last two songs mentioned- what are they like? I love all the others! My guess is that it's not , but LRH is a great song. I hope "Long Road" is a new composition. Anyway , "Nobody's Crying" has as good a chance to be a biggie as any of Patty's songs. Especially with the more somber mood of the country since 9/11. All Patty needs is one hit , to draw people to her body of work , & from then on , we'll be lucky to get up close again. I'll have to start remembering to take my binoculars. Can't wait to hear the final cuts , but I think I'm more anxious to hear her French song. Any info about "Evangeline Made; A Tribute to Cajun Music" would be greatly appreciated when it hits the shelves.... or online. Now I don't want to beg you baby For something maybe you could never give I'm not looking for the rest of your life I just want another chance to live Patty Griffin "Rain" Peace & music , Don > Here's the deal.
