I don't know who produced it but I know that George Marino of Sterling Sound (nyc) mastered it ;) I have been speaking w/ his people about mastering my own record and the topic of Patty came up and the new record was praised pretty highly! Which makes me even more exicted to hear it :) Jess www.jessicaweiser.com | www.aftersilence.net ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Jan 2002 13:05:37 -0800 From: "Matt Ward" Subject: Re: MM:NPC:A MUSICAL RECOMMENDATION My 2 cents regarding Sarah Harmer: I've got the CD and while they're a couple of decent songs on it, I wouldn't compare her to Patty Griffin. This is not just a value judgment, I just don't they are very similar artists. Sarah's voice is rather thin--certainly compared to Patty's--and her pitch is not all that great. She more of a warbler than a belter, whereas Patty has the ability to go from a whisper to a scream in a heartbeat. I'd also say that Sarah Harmer has a LOOONG way to go before she's Patty's equal as a songwriter (okay, so that is a value judgement). Again, just my two cents. I'd recommend you go listen to a few track before you run out and buy Sarah Harmer's CD. Then again, I understand that a lot of people who like Patty are also Jewel fans--which completely blows my mind--so to each his or her own. Check out Lisa LaShawn on MP3.com if you want to hear somebody who's a little closer to Patty's fire and emotion. Must put my 2 cents in about Sarah Harmer. Although I absolutely agree that Sarah doesn't sound like Patty (in my opinion), I think Sarah Harmer is a fabulous musician and songwriter and her cd was in constant rotation in my player all of last winter/spring. While their songwriting styles are quite different, each woman is a terrific musician and storyteller. The genres are different, the moods are often different, but the music speaks for itself. You Were Here is probably on my top ten list for 2001 cd purchases (although technically, I think it was still 2000 when I bought it). I absolutely recommend getting it. Fab cd! - -Carrie ------------------------------ End of mad-mission-digest V6 #4 *******************************
