One of the tracks will be "Poor Man's House." It will be very interesting to hear how Maura, a terrific, powerhouse vocalist more associated with Nashville and Ireland, interprets the song. She's done very good covers of The Beatles (that's not *necessarily* a sacrilege!), Shawn Colvin, and countless others over her career. I've pasted in the brief summary from Miles of Music, which in turn includes a couple of links. If anyone hears the track, please report in... Ciao, Joe MAURA O'CONNELL - Walls & Windows (DUE 11/13/01) Although she was born (and became a music star) in Ireland, Maura O'Connell has lived for many years in Nashville and her Sugar Hill debut reflects this residency. Walls & Windows is a memorable showcase for O'Connell's powerful vocals and her keen ability to pick tunes that suit her singing ability. The songs here come from the pens of music legends Eric Clapton, Van Morrison and John Prine as well as such acclaimed younger writers as Ron Sexsmith, Kim Richey, Malcolm Holcombe and Patty Griffin. The masterful Ray Kennedy handles the production chores on this alluring country record, which also features performances by some of Nashville finest (Darrell Scott, Kenny Vaughan, John Jarvis, Will Kimbrough and Kenny Malone).(Sugar Hill) CD $15.00 http://www.milesofmusic.com/cgi-moses/search.pl/momsrch?idcode=OconnellM aura-Walls&f_success=search MP3: MAURA O CONNELL - "To The Homeland" http://www.milesofmusic.com/sound/moconnell_homeland.mp3 ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 05 Nov 2001 11:08:43 -0800 From: "Marc Hertz" Subject: MM: Okay, so I've been completely out of the loop I just got back on the list after switching email addresses a few months ago and just now getting around to re-subscribing. I'm curious what the latest update is with Patty's new album, assuming there have been any. Please reply directly to me if anyone has any news or notes. Thanks, everyone, and it's good to be back.
